lowering rear end
There waqs a concept I was informed about this weekend that I'm now rather curious about.
The idea was to lower the rear end of the L by 2 inches. Not noticable visible, but might transfer a little more of the weight to the rear wheels, lowering the amount of wheelspin.
The concept came from a couple drag racers I know that mentioned that the tension in the shock/springs in the rear end of their cars were lower so that on take off, the weight naturally transfered to the rear wheels.
Interesting idea anyways.

I know by removing the front sway bar I get a better than stock weight tranfer to the rear wheels, not to mention that it must be close to 40 lbs.There have been a few of us here on the board that have experimented with the Competion Engineering drag shocks also. There was a slight improvemnet, but for a daily driver it might be a pain in the a s s for a few.If I remember correctly they need to be removed for changes.

if you drop the rear of the L by 2 inches it WILL be noticeably visible...in fact it looks damn good, IMHO. I recently met up with a fellow board member to check his out and I liked the way it looked and I plan on doing mine this week. He's been told by others that it will lower his dragstrip times, but he hadn't tested it himself yet.
Can anyone confirm this one way or the other?
I don't plan on racing much, so I figure if it DOES reduce traction, I can always pop the shackles off for race day.

I've got new 17" wheels for winter towing. These wheels raise the truck about 2". The rear wheel well would, I think, tolerate the 2" shakkle drop kit. My concern is about how a drop will affect tow rating; dose anyone have input on how my tow rating and/or tongue rating may be affected. It would be great to do a drop for when I have the stock SVT wheels on and be able to use them even when towing a trailer of approx weight of 3000 lbs withoug worrying about putting too much stress on the leaf springs. Here's a pic of the new 17 wheels to show stock suspention with the big wheels.

I do not know whether weight is transferred or not. What I DO know is that with a 2" drop, the L looks fantastic

The 2" drop looks great, but will probably be worse for weight transfer unless spring rate is changed. The suspension guys have a name for it which I cannot remember, but you can simulate it by standing a book up on it's edge and pushing at the bottom edge that's against the table. The book falls over backwards (rear weight transfer). Now lay the book flat and do the same thing. The book skids forward (no rear weight transfer). I think one of the guys who lowered their lightning actually experienced this. Obviously this is an extreme example, and it looks so much better I say do it anyway. If you're really worried about hooking up, get slicks. Just my .02.
