I am headed to New Mexico in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if there is anybody out there that is a frequent guest at this website? What is it like out there and what should I expect? Can anybody tell me where the hot spots are and what I should avoid? I take it it's nothing like TEXAS.

My company is moving me to the intel sight in Rio rancho and I need to know what neighborhoods to avoid and where I should rent. Also what is the party atmosphere like down there. Anything I should see or try while I am up there?

 

I live in Albuquerque and am also in semiconductors. Rio Rancho is a suburb. You can still get shot there but not as bad as most other areas of town. It's acually pretty nice up there. I personally live in the NE heights (in the Sandia foothills) and work near the base. We have really nice neighorhoods but we get a bank robbery and a shooting every week or two this time of year. (better not let your wife read this)Also alot of aggressive drivers, I had to train myself not to get enraged. Funny, just about every time I am being tailgated I look in my rearview and it's a woman. Also try to ignore the low riders. They will leave you alone unless you eyeball them or get in there way. They always pack. As for rent, I never did buy a house partially because of the Volatility of the semiconductor Business. We were able to find a 3 br 2 bath 2 car garage w/ nice fenced backyard for less than $900/mo. I think we got lucky though.
