Kicker 5x7 impulse's are the best out there now. About 300 a pair but well worth it. Sperate swiveling tweeter and a crossover are standard. If you change to something that high performance, you should also change the stock radio out or amplify it.

I have noticed that the factory speakers in the L's aren't up to par with the rest of the truck... What are some alternatives? I am not looking to add subs and tweaters all over the place, just replace the factory. Is Eclipse the best way to go? And if so, what size? 5x7?

I can't say what is the best speaker out because I don't have the money to try them all. But I have MB Quart in my 93 Cobra and they sound very very good. I am going with MB Quart in the L as soon as I am done with the other mods. http://www.mbquart.com

I agree with RTKILLA in that it would be a good idea to get a new head unit or run an amp off the stock unit. I already have a 10" square solobaric for my truck, now I need 2 amps, a set of MB Quarts, and some converters for the head unit so I can run amps off of it.

Here is a pic of my square kicker sub

The stock speakers are 6x8 on all 4. Pioneer (and maybe others) make 6x8's specifically to fit Ford and Mazda products. Do a search at www.crutchfield.com to see what fits. They have a guide to what fits in specific vehicles.

I have a Alpine Deck, a ADS amp, and Focal Poly Kevlar speakers in my current truck as soon as I get the Lightning they will be going in.
This is a real clean sounding system, even if you really crank it up.
On the current truck the amp is under the drivers seat, I do not know if it will fit under the seat of the L with the power seat.
I had MB Quart speakers in my last ride, they were nice but the Focals blow them away.

Thanks for the help.
DUCK - I might go with the 10 inch sub and an amp. I plan on visiting my local car stereo specialist first...

Thumbs up

Zeus-
You sound like I did. I didn't want to "knock down the block" or anything, but I wanted something that made Jack Ingram (guitar, drums, and high(er) vocals) sound good. I'm no audiophile or anything, so I didn't go all out.

I put a JL Audio 10" behind the passenger seat (I know you said you didn't want a sub, but hear me out). I then ran a RF 360 to it and ran another RF 120 to the FACTORY highs. The sub pulls enough bass from the factory highs that that actually sound good. I kept the factory head unit so the truck still looks original. Granted, I won't win any competitions, but anything from Texas Country to Pantera sounds good now.
