I'm looking for a black L. I'm actually investigating an out-of-state purchase right now -- I did the same thing with my Cobra - I was in Boston at the time where they were asking $5K over MSRP for new Cobra convertibles, so I bought it by phone from Indiana for MSRP.
Serramonte Ford? Really? I went over there and whoever I talked to was a complete a$$. They wouldn't give me a price quote, laughed when I said I wouldn't even respond to a price over MSRP, wouldn't tell me how soon I could get the truck, and then got in an argument with me about the Cobra R they have in the showroom asking $100K. I saw the R at SEMA long before they got one, I race a Cobra that could eat it's lunch and I knew far more about the car (and why it's a ripoff even at $55K) than he does, but he thought he knew better. So full of himself. Directly after is when I went down to San Bruno Ford and had a great experience with James Riedel there. He even saved '01 L brochures for me when they came in, and last time I saw him he passed them along (they're on my coffee table now).
Just my experience with these guys.

I got my 2001 in Texas for $1200 under MSRP and with an additional $400 off for the College graduate program. I got this deal by calling almost every SVT dealer in Texas. You can get the phone numbers and locations off the Ford website. Got to the dealer locator and you can make it show you the closest SVT dealers to you. BTW, I got this deal when I'm in NY. I transfering to texas in a month and my truck will be waiting for me at the dealer. I can't wait!

If you are willing to shop out of State, you can try Mike Bass Ford 1-888-227-7033
I got my 2000 L there for $27,700. Or Marshall Ford offered me one for $27,800. Their number is 216-941-9800. At first, noone wanted to quote a price over the phone. Finally I got a quote of $29,900 from Canton Downtown Ford 1-800-274-1001. Once I got the first quote, other dealers were willing to tell me what they could sell me one for. The MSRP for a 2000 is $31,375. I shopped for about a month, and signed the deal on 1/17/00, so this is a good time to shop. I think it is about $200-$300 additional to drop ship it to another dealer.
