Question Calling KGM....

Got a question for ya man.....

On a post a while back you mentioned something about changing the gaskets around on your lo-pro to make it fit or look better??

I'm planning on getting one really soon and was wondering what you did.

Thanks

Spencer

Spencer...Here's the story. My first cover comes in and they call me to come get it. Get there and they take the truck around back and come in a half hour latter and tell me to come take a look, a problem. Lo Pro puts shipping blocks on the cover and almost run the screws through the cover. Got to get another, I've got the Bed Rug in so I say just put this one on for now till the new one comes. Can not do because they did not send all of the hardware. Ok so I wait for the second cover. Guy puts the cover on [his first Lo Pro] and you could tell. Brings the truck out front and it's on almost sideways. Also the rubber is run on top of the tailgate and bed rails so when you drop the gate the rubber it flopping for a couple of inches on each side. Very uneven going across with the cover closed. Goes out back again and comes back better but he took a razor knife and trimmed the rubber back so now you see the two sided tape. Tell him I don't like it so he gives me the gasket kit from the first cover. There are two different gasket profiles on the Lo Pro, one for the sides, one for the tailgate. So I get home and take the one they had on the sides and stick it to the top of the cover in the rear. From the extra kit I use the rear profile and run down the sides on the bed rails stopping behind the rubber stuck to the lid. If you can make any sense out of this long *** story good for you. My advice would be to watch the installer and before he sticks the gaskets do a "dry fit" and see what they look like because you can see them easy from behind and they look bad if not cut in right. Hope this helped somewhat, it sure was long enough. By the way I didn't get a AirRaid I made the "Blastgate" ram air for the truck, do a search under "Ram Air Pics" works great. Good Luck!

I have a LoPro and it was the seller's first install as well. The cover was shipped without keys, so the first install appointment was short lived.

When everything was in order, the install took four hours. Looks great. Now for some insight.

We all stood there looking at the seal supplied for the tailgate and wondered how it could be so wrong. Well we installed it on the tailgate itself with one edge needing to be cut off. Thought everything was cool.

However, in a discussion with Venusfly over on www.nloc.org I have since discovered the error in my ways. The tailgate seal is meant to be placed on the lid and squeeze down on the tailgate. This way the tailgate can be dropped without screwing up the foam itself.

Now for the cool part that you may want to try. See this post: http://nloc.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000912.html for installing the lid without key locks. They are a pain to use if you ever want to open the lid a lot. Will probably get my lock holes filled this spring so that I can make this sort of modification. I have scratched the paint around the locks a couple of times. The paint is very thin.

Highly recommended!!

Thumbs up

KGM

Thanks for the advice. It will be helpfull to know what to look for when they are installing the lo-pro. As for the "Blastgate" -- Man !!....that looks awesome!! Have you gotten any #'s yet to see if your seat-of-the-pants test was correct?

WHAT04

is that latch set-up something that lo-pro offers instead of the locks? Or did he have someone fab that up? Looks nicer without the locks.

Thanks again

Spencer

That was fab'd by someone in Michigan. Name is in his post. I'm sure they are many ways to do it. Important part was that he ordered the lid without the holes in it.

Who says we don't get wiser with age?

I see that Venusfly's gaskets are all on the cover. So which way is the right way? Does LO Pro even send instructions with the cover? WHAT04 is right about the two key locks being a hassle, you can live with it if you don't use the cover alot, but Venusfly's set up is cool. The nice thing about the LO Pro is that it doesn't stick out at you, kind of like it's there but it isn't if you know what I mean.

The picture of the Dakota in Venusfly's post only shows the foam seal on the rear of the lid for the tailgate.

I would think that the best method for adhesion of the seal is on the bed rails, not on relatively raw fiberglass. Only problem putting them on the bed rails is that they are really stuck there.

In fact, to do this lock removal modification, I will be replacing the tailgate cap because there ain't no way that glue is coming off without one huge mess.

By the way, no pictures were sent with the instructions.

Don't get me wrong, I love this cover and its look. I'm just trying for a little more custom look.

Put the gaskets on the lid itself. They have very good adhesion. I have had mine on for seven months now, through hot and cold weather. It is opened at least once a week and have had no problems. No leaks and an excellent fit.
