Which Blower?

hey people,

i know this isn't the right forum for this, but i do know there are allot of knowledgeable people in here that may be able to help me out. I have a 2006 F150 im looking to supercharge the motor. i know its a different motor. but i do realize some supercharger are more efficient then others.

Ive been looking at the Magnacharger and whipple, but having a hard time on deciding which one to choose.

Can you guys help me out, or throw out ideas for any other blower brands?

Thanks
Daniel

I assume your talking Stock Block, with that in mind I would give some serious consideration to a ProCharger. NOBODY has a better intercooler in the industry than their air to air set up, you can run low octane fuel, and with a
centrifugal SC you dont stress the motor AT ALL with normal driving.
The powers there if you need it, but when you drive normal you will get better gas milage, more power and cause "0" stress. And when you get on it the power comes in extremely smooth and is much easier on the motor than a twin screw or roots (it's simply a Turbo with a belt)

This should be your set up here http://www.procharger.com/TRUCK_SUV/truck_suv.shtml (3rd one down)
2004-06 Ford 5.4 3V Truck/SUV
Description.................... HP Gain.......... Intercooler
8-9 psi w/ P-1SC-1 .........60-65% ............ 2 Core

Procharger may be fine and dandy to impress your buddies at the track, but for street driving I'm pretty sure most people would like to enjoy the power all of the time, not just @ WOT.

Not to mention, the new F150s are incredibly heavy beasts... a centrifugal blower really doesn't a lot of sense for that. You want LOTS, and I mean LOTS of low end torque if you want to have fun with one of these trucks.

Whipple, Roush, and Magnacharger all offer fantastic units. Use the search function and do some research that way.

Then go with what fits your budget and style best.

Ok I have to almost agree with you
There is NO DOUBT a twin screw or roots is INSTANT power, and for a heavy truck you may be 100% correct in saying thats his best choice.
Dan if it's all about what will give you the most, then Whipple, Roush, and Magnacharger are all good choices (prob in that order too)

However in the case of putting a SC on a vehcile that was not made for one I say there is an advantages in NOT having all that power all the time,
and I def wouldnt say the power is only there to impress on the track with a Procharger, all you need do is press down a little AND HOLD ON. Mine took the usual "pathetically slow Stang GT" (which they all are) and turned it into an instant Beast "STREET AND STRIP"
I had to take off in 2nd gear to get traction on the street with mine and thats with street slicks. And in comparison a Stock GT w/ Procharger will almost always stomp a stock Terminator w roots, and thats using the P-1SC-1, if you move up to the D-1SC, or the F-2's SKYS THE LIMIT.....

It all comes down to what YOU want Dan....

BTW can you say Worlds Fastest Pump Gas Vehcile (Yes 91 Octane)

1969 Super Chevy Nova

427 cid, Production Block and Crankshaft
GMPP Rect. Port Heads, Solid Roller Cam, 7800 RPM
2 450 Holley Carburetors, 91 Octane, 3400 lbs
F-2 ProCharger, Cog Drive, 1800 hp A/W
28 psi, 1495 HP, 203% HP Gain
3.5 HP/ci on Pump Gas

BTW, this car is full weight +

Depends on how far you want to go with it.

If you want to bolt it on and not add to it (more boost), then all positive displacement blowers are great (Whipple, Roush, PowerWorks, Trilogy).

If you want to go alot further... like H-beam rods and forged pistons and up the boost.. you need to do some research and talk to some places like JDM engineering and Troyer Performance.. and others.

The Roush blower is the only one out there that has an alternate belt drive system to spin the supercharger. This means you can add a larger lower pulley to up the boost with speeding up every other accessory. YOu can add smaller upper pullies to all the kits.. but that will only net you a small increase to what a larger lower pulley can do.

One member on here uses a Roush pulley system and a whipple blower (with a longer snout) and has great results. His was totally built at JDM engineering.

No doubt Whipple and Kenne Bell and even the Saleen superchargers (all Twin-Screw blowers) will be your better choice for upping the boost, but they're all equally as good at keeping the stock blower power range (7-10PSI).

Good Luck
