Every once in a while, somebody starts a thread about electric fans, but it never seems to go anywhere. I've got to believe that there is some worthwhile horsepower bottled up in spinning our cooling fan.

I was at my dealership the other day, drooling over the 5.4l 32V in the Cobra R, when I noticed the electric fan it uses. Obviously it is very capable of cooling a high heat application. Just don't know about the hook up required, etc, etc.

If anyone has any insight, I would certainly welcome a discussion.

HI!... WHAT04 : The guys with "REGULAR" F-150's have been doing this mod for a few years now on these trucks. I installed two "DERALE" 16 inch electric fans on my truck. The fan on the passenger side runs off a PERMA-COOL electronic thermastat switch. This switch is adjustable so you can set it at what ever temp you want the fan to come on. My 2ND fan is wired to a lighted switch mounted in my ENGINE temp guage "A" pillar pod. I can turn this one on manually if I get stuck in STOP AND GO traffic for a long period of time. I also wired a red light mounted in the same guage pod to inform me when the switch activates the 1ST fan. All the above items were bought from SUMMIT RACING. Even in the hot SUMMER with only one fan running, my engine temp never went over 190 degree's. With the cold WINTER air right now it hovers around 175-180 degree's and that is with the fan not operating. In the WINTER the fans hardly ever come on. I also installed a huge PERMA-COOL tranny cooler with a 10 inch electric fan mounted to it. This fan is also hard wired to a manual switch mounted in my TRANS temp guage pod. The gains that I noticed after do the fan install were that the engine seemed to rev up in 1ST gear faster and actually gave me a few more MPH's on top speed. (132MPH with 4.10 gears) Plus you don't get that fan "REVED UP" noise that the huge clutch fan gives you on 1ST excelleration. I would say it gave me an increase of about 10H.P at the flywheel. Hello all..

A friend of mine just put an electric fan on his L.. Nice set up.. it has a temp switch on it that is adhustable.. Down here in Fla. keeping things cool is more of a concern.. He has not really noticed any increase in temps.. the truck just warms up quicker..
