Love your Street Scene Grill and plan to do the same to my 01L. What do you mean "insert", did you just place it over the original equipment grill without first removing it? Did you place screws in the bottom grill just because it was easier to reach?

By insert, the lower actually replaces the factory lower. You remove the lower and the SS fits into the hole. You can use the supplied clips to hold it in, but I wasn't pleased with the strength at which it was held in on the lower. So I used some screws at top, bottom and sides to hold it firmly in place. I do still have the clips in place.

With the upper, it does fit over the factory piece and is held in by the same clips. What I want to do is to cut out the factory honeycomb, and install the SS piece. I would paint the factory grey "ring" black and the screw the SS grille in place.
