Thumbs up

Damon,
What did that kit cost ya' and how hard was it to install?? I don't know a whole lot about tranny's other than pulling the pan and changing the filter,so it's gotta be pretty simple if I am to attempt it.Thanks

Cool

Hamrhead,
I am not Damon but did install the Level 10 shift kit (includes 2 accumulator valves (use largest one) and 3-springs) in my L. It cost me $125.00 and took me about 30 minutes to install. Actually very simple to do.
1) Drain fluid and remove pan.
2) Remove 8-(8mm?) bolts and 2-10mm nuts and take down valve body (first valve body from frt, of trans.)
3) use a paper clip bent in a 90" 1/4 end to remove the keeper springs and take a 8mm bolt to remove the valves. replace one valve (the one with the center that is removable) and change the 3 remaining springs.
4) Assemble in reverse order.
Actually PSP gives very good directions with their Level 10 kits.
Hope this helped?

The kit is 150.00, I usely use Transco kits, but the article in Muscle Magazine convenced me to try this one. The instructions are confusing and wrong. They send you to some steps that you don't need to do. I build auto
tranny's for a living so it was not a difficult task. But if you do it you might have to give the technical team there a call.
They can get you thru it. The shifts were really hard at first so I went back in and did some work on the shift timing valves and helped the situation. There are two different EPC valves you can use. The smaller one is very mild. The larger one is the one I favor, but is pretty firm. It sure sounds good when you hit second and leave a patch of Good Year on the street. 3rd and 4th are very nice also. It should surely make the tranny live longer. Let me know if I can help. Good luck.

The thing that was confusing about the instructions was from step 5 on. The first 4 steps were ok. But step 5 and beyond looked like it pertained to E4OD not the 4R100. There is a difference.
30 minutes!!! Golly Gee 1RedDevil, your fast.

Sheesh...
My tranny had lotsa stuff to do.. (TransGo)
I drilled holes in the valve body, filed different valves, replaced valves, different springs, different turns for this and that, checkball removal drill through the casting on one, replace rear servo for firmest 1-2 shift, Acumulator springs...

Makes me wanna Ford tranny

If one was installed, and then removed, wouldn't the Ford dealership be able to tell that one was installed? Not that I would ever get one...

Thanks for the info/instructions everyone. It doesn't sound too bad. Though Tundra's got a point worth thinking about,,What might the Ford Boys think about it and my warranty if I happen to have a driveline prob(Trans,u-joints,driveshaft,differential)??? I guess the warranty thing is the biggest obstacle that keeps me from further modding the truck.I bought the 6yr/75,000 plan,so I still have 4.5yr's and 65K left.Don't want my $1,300 warranty voided.

Hamrhead,
The shift kit is the best thing you could do for your tranny!! Thoses lazy heat generating shifts cause way too much heat inside the tranny. As for the drive line, its stronger than any Ford tranny. I just waited too long, thats why mine is in the shop waiting on a new tranny!

Question

Just out of curiosity, would a shift kit void the warranty on the trans?

Talking

Ordered a TransGo kit from these folks yesterday- http://www.txchange.com/
Paid only $89 for it, since I am going to have someone who knows something install it, you won't catch me mucking about under a truck. The do-it-yourself version with the instruction video runs substantially higher, around $117 as I recall. Oh, before I ordered, I took the transmission guy for a ride to find out if he thought a kit would help. He got an E-ticket ride, and I think he was mightily impressed with the truck.

I installed the Level 10 shift kit on my 99 L and I don't see how Ford could tell that it was ever installed if you removed it. All it consists of is 3 springs and a larger valve. As long as you were careful and didn't tear anything up I don't see how they could tell it was ever there.
