Talking NEW COBRA R IS REALLY JUST A SHOW CAR

Go to my sponsors shop and see a cobra R he works on. The front bumper/air dam is broken away from its screw mounts under the hood. Owner called SVT and they said they had a few reported incidents but only above 150 mph. Asked him how fast he was going. Answer--Over 150 mph. My buddy is building a support for the airdam bumper. Another Ford better idea.

Well for you people down here in south florida, they have one at Maroone Ford in Delray Beach off of Linton, Really nice car on the outside, hated the inside. As for the carpet they put to cover the rear seat space, it looks like they just cut out a piece of carpet and velcro it to the back, looks really cheap.

I've had problems with the heat shield rubber thingy that connects the front bumper to the intercooler radiator. On extended runs over 140, it tends to pop off. New screws fixed it; what was ford thinking with those little plastic pop-in things?

Nathan,

They probably thought we "enthusiasts" wouldn't have the juevos to run them that fast.....Wrong...

I'm embarassed for Ford. They trot out the R in hopes of competing with the Z06 and the Viper ACR and fail miserably....the point of looking like a wannabe.

The Cobra R was in no way meant to be a drag car. It is for the road circuit, who would put 3.55 gears and a 6 speed in a 385 hp drag car. So saying it is a failure because it isn't the best at somthing it wasn't meant to do is silly. Only their results on the track will determine if it is a success, not by peoples opinions. I for one think it is a blast, you can knock me for having one, but I have never seen groups of people around a vet or a viper like I have around my R.

I see crowds around Vipers all the time, they are the baddest American car in production, fastest to, the Cobra R is a Cobra with a shopping cart handle and a kit, nothin special, I'll stick with my viper and even a vette..

I agree with bggroth! Let's see how it does on(and how many of them actually get to) the track. These damn things are a blast to drive. I had a S/C'd '93 Cobra that I traded on mine. It WAS faster in the 1/4 mile, but not the same experience as the R. These cars are made to drive when that's ALL what you want to do.Yeah,no radio and a/c sucks, but mean nothing when you're really in the mood to 'push' cars like these. And they do attract a lot of attention!

Brian, its kind of embarassing that some of these gear heads don't understand it's not a drag racer. Ford did the best with the products available ie Mustang.. I for one think its great and support Fords efforts to keep projects like it going.

Brian call me if you get a chance.

I'm sure all those who own one enjoy it, and I think it's a nice car, although not very aesthetically pleasing to me. I think the point was missed that this was Ford's answer to the Z06 and Viper ACR. The R isn't even close to those two. For those who've rebutted that the R is a road course car and should be judged as such, i'd refer you to Car & Driver's duel in the desert where all three were put through the paces. I, like all other Ford fans, was hoping for a strong showing, but it just didn't happen. I wish Ford would put the time and money into producing a completely new, original concept instead of trying to polish the turd that is the Mustang. Why not stop throwing Cobra badges on a mustang and build a new Cobra more along the lines of the original AC Cobra? Sorry for the longwinded rant, just MHO.
