Question Black Chrome

is anyone familiar with this process? does it look like black paint, and is it worth looking into for my wheels. most of the chrome platers on the net offer it, but no good pics.

Hey BBQ,

A buddy of mine powder-coated his F-150 wheels black on his 4x4 and it looks killer. Just a little bit of gloss and basically indestructible. Check into that also.

I belive that the term "black chrome" is still chrome just darker that normal, also called industrial chrome plate. Unless it is something new that is really black.

Wink

Gunsmiths have been black chroming premium rifles and pistols for about thirty years. Georgeous and almost as trouble free as stainless.

Cool

BBQ -

Black Chrome. Is that like an oxymoron or something (Like army inteligence). My kid had a Diamondback Turbolite bicycle frame that was black chrome. It was regular chrome plating with a gun blue finish. It like rocked, but got scratched up too easy. Now it's just chrome. I think Tiger Woods has a black chrome putter or something. Hope this helps. Alot.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Since the Lightning rims are alloy, they can be hard anodized in black. I think this would give you the color you are looking for. My Valkyrie forks are hard anodized black.

If I remember correctly, you can have anything which will not melt at 400 degrees farenheit can be powder coated.

You can match almost any color imaginable, so I should see no reason why they can not powder coat your windshield wiper arms to exactly match the truck.

Dennis,
I thing that your forks are either billet or an extrusion. Anodizing does not do very well on a casting like the Lightning wheels. The finish is not uniform. Another piece of information the oval bore throttle bodies are magnesium. Yes they polish up and dull down just as fast.

Thumbs up

BBQ,
You find a place that will do to your rims what was done to Lariats badges let me know about the cost. I have been pondering having this done for a while but I wasn't sure if it was possible. I don't want "jet" black, but those badges he had done look schweeeet.Exactly what I'm looking for.
