I don't know that they are changing the stereo in 2001, but the 1999, 2000 L's have a six disk changer that sits behind the seat and it is NOT wireless. I just finished relocating it under the middle seat and had to pull up the wire from under the door in order to reach the 6 disk changer.

Does any one know if the 2001 is coming with a wire less or an indash changer?

Just came home with a new Escape with the Mach setup and it definitely sounds better than the L's. I changed my speakers in the L to some 6x8 3-way Pioneers and that helped pretty good.

Sound system sux in the lightning....and it does not come with the in dash 6 cd unit.

i am not too happy with the stock sound system and will replace it as soon as i finish the rest of my mods. i think with the wireless 6 disk changer you dont get nearly as good of sound .its not bad by stock standards i guess but if your used to a killer system you will need to upgrade.
