hey guys on a budget LOOK

I only want the best for my LIGHTNING the quality is long remembered long after the $price is forgotten.IF you can afford it buy the best. now thats my logic.////////////////////////////////////LIGHTNING FAST. TOM

Not to mention that if you go cheap, you may have to buy again sooner than you think.

Well, I guess you have a miracle truck - A close friend of mine has a Lightning ('04). All the standard mods (pulley, CAI, cat-back, tune, etc.). 405 HP at the wheels.....
He bought the complete Dynatech exhaust system: long tube headers, high flow cats (deleted two of the cats) and the Dynatech cat back.
While we were at it, we installed a Steigmeier ported Eaton.
With the new exhaust AND ported Eaton, he picked up 32 HP... The ported Eaton alone should have constituted between 25 and 30 HP of that equation.... Some guys report 35 HP gains with the ported Eaton alone.
In other words, the exhaust did not appear to add very much power at all. I questioned your increase because a Lightning motor is moving WAY MORE air than your N/A motor and it didn't add 30HP here ???
Headers just don't seem to add that much, at lower power levels. This has been observed MANY MANY times by lots of folks on this board.
Glad it worked for you though.

thats very strange. did he get custom tuning for the ported eaton and headers? thats going to flow a lot more air than mine for sure. The difference was night and day for me, and i put it on the dyno to prove the seat of the pants feel, and sure enough, I gained 30hp
I'm with you built54, can't seem to get the messege across to some people. It's been said and proven that long tubes make considerably more power in the low- mid range, some quote in upwards to 40-50 gain in this RPM. And if that is true then your pulling away from your foe a ell of a lot harder and faster than if you did not have them. Peak I think is what most are set on in only gaining small power, but how long is your truck at peak?

Do a search on here - the # of folks who lost HP and torque when adding longtubes FAR outnumber the ones who report large gains - UNLESS they are doing the built block / Whipple or KB / heads and cams treatment.
Yes, Sam @ Coastal Dyno did the tuning and he has lots of experience with modular motors, both in Lightnings and Mustangs. (He tunes AFChad's L, which is putting 510 HP to the wheels on a stock block)
Like I said, I'm glad it worked so well for you , but it definitely isn't the norm with bolt-on modded engines.

ill have to agree with you bud...I just cant see helping a motor FLOW better and then loose power.. even with a supercharged motor, I have the bassani shorts on my truck when i get the long tubes i will put it on a dyno and make a new post..
