Question Temp & Boost gauges are in....HAVE QUESTIONS.

Well, I finally installed the Autometer Phantom mech. Boost and Water temp gauges....look nice but I had some questions about them.....
1. What is normal operating temp. for our trucks? I'm sitting around 175-180 deg...Is that normal? The sensor is grounded like I was told to do..
2. At idle the phantom Boost gauge reads 20in.Merc, when I punch the throttle it slowly moves to 10psi.... but the stock gauge is way past 10 psi and touching the black part of the cluster....is the stock gauge that inaccurate, or did I do something wrong?

afj00svt:

Did the stock guage read that way before? And, yes... The stock guage can be that inaccurate.

The Autometer Boost guage sounds right on the money, though...

TampaBay,
The stock gauge has always pinned the back of the cluster since I installed the JL filter kit....
I'm just curious as to what normal operating temps should be on the Autometer Water temp gauge?
By the way, I haven't found a dealer yet around here who knows what the hell I'm asking for when I ask for the interior trim plugs....They claim Ford doesn't make one to fill the hole for removing the handle....I need to fill that gaping hole!

afj00svt,

Get one for a '97 F150. That's what I did. The color matches perfectly. The cost was like $18 plus tax.

I have the part number but not with me. I will post laster on this evening.

AFJ,

180 degrees is perfect. You may see it go up a little when idling for a long time in hot weather or towing uphill. You only need to worry when you start getting up around 220 or above.
