Talking A Little Racing Fun

Got a little street racing in tonight. First up was an Impala SS the newer type. She yes she caught a red light with me and floored it from the get go. I love when the girls get in on the action. I walked away by two car lengths before I backed off at 50mph. Next a T Bird SC (Supercharged) We went from a roll, this was a pretty easy win. Then from about a 20mph roll a sweet 1996 LT4 Vette. I pulled about a car length to 50mph. Had to slow for traffic but I was pulling away. Managed to talk to the guy while in traffic. That’s when he told me it was an LT4. It had mods. Well at least an exhaust. The guy was really cool, said he wanted an L and told me I should get a pulley for even more power, oh he also said that supercharger sure howls NICE.
Next up was a 1991 Syclone. He followed me when I turned. I new this would be trouble and it was. We ran twice from a roll. Each time he pulled about ½ to 1 car on me straight away and held that through to about 60mph. Again a cool guy. He had some mods including a filter chip and cut outs I think. Fast little truck. He had no passenger. Next was more trouble. An LS1 SS stick with lid filter and chip. We went from a roll with pretty much the same result as the Syclone. I guess he would have kept pulling at the top end but we never got the chance to go faster than about 60mph. Each time we went from a roll it was about 35mph. To fast for my L to down shift to first. Got to get that chip. On one occasion we went from about 20mph and I did down shift. Much closer that time. Wanted to run him from a stop but it never happened. The final race was a very persistent Firebird Formula LT1 with the WS6 package. He would not run from a stop but kept on trying me from a roll. I walked him pretty bad each time. He did have three passengers to my one 250Lb passenger. My best run of the night was that LT4 Vette. Very cool car.

That sounds like fun. Too bad you couldn't get a stop light with that LS1 SS. Thats their weakspot, and they know it. As far as the syclone goes, be glad you went from a roll. Those things can be mean. Too bad the only ones left are either babied or monsters.

I raced an lt1 vette, and it wasn't much of a race.

The impala SS is good for 8 seconds 0-60, thats what I read anyways. 200 hp, not sure about the torque.

I heard LT4s were supposed to have more performance, I raced a guy that swore up and down he had one in a 94 T/A Firehawk Formula or something. But it was me walking away in second AND 3rd. Then I heard only 18 were made and 4 were wrecked.

Glad you had fun, I had fun reading your post.

Hi Tundra,
Thank's for the intrest. I like reading / watching your races to. The LT4 is supposed to have 330hp stock I think. Thinking about that LS1 SS. He jumped me every time. You know how it is pretty hard to get a clean fair start. Strange how each time he jumped first. Like you said it may have been a bit differant from a complete stop. So now that you have your L back are you able to drive or has the weather turned on you?
Take care out there.

Hilander, You wouldn't happen to have a picture of your L with the Snuglid on that you could email me would you? I was thinking about putting a Snuglid on my Silver L as well.

Thanks,

HANKFAN

Hankfan,

Well no, because I have only had the L for a month and the Snuglid has not arrived yet. I orderd it at the same time as my Bedrug. It's on and looks cool. Anyway I would expect that the Snug lid will be installed within the next 10 days. That's what the store said we shall see. Will post a pic then if you want.

Well, I was jumped, once. I was emailing this 00 Camaro SS guy for like a month and he was wondering what I was doig getting all these street races. I told him where our 'strip' was and kept an eye out for him. Wouldn't you know it, I met up with him on a night I never thought I would. He got me at a vulnerable time. I didn't have my sand bags with me, but I told him I'd race anyhow, win or lose. Catch was, I would post the video of the race either way. He didn't care, and thats what I liked about him. He told me he just had fun going at it. Well, we lined up, and I heard him revving ihs motor, I was a little worried, but what worried me most was him heating up his tires. I spun all the way through the intersection and he got a pretty clean launch, but once I hooked up, I was right there. I told him the difference in the race was the sandbags. Yet he didn't seem to believe me.

The following weekend this other SS driver that I was toying with (2-3 against, always a very close) was telling him the same story I was. So we headed back out. Same light and all. We both heated out tires, I was a little skeptacle, as I was never left like that before, but I had my sandbags. It turns out I pulled on him to 50-55 then he started to reel me in, and finally passed me around 70. It has been that way ever since, every race since then. Any mistake on either part, and its curtains.

Get some snadbags, I went to home depot and bought some concrete mix and threw that in the bed. It turned some "I knew I coulda beat that ford truck" comments into "Damn that truck is quick, we gotta line up again" comments. Except its the same every time. I am not exaggerating when I say there is only one car that can beat this truck up here, consistently.
