Anybody interested in some custom rotors like these:?
They are ball-end milled so they won't crack like cross-drilled rotors and they are coated with zinc chromate so the edges and hub area won't rust. I've got them on my Vette and love 'em.
More info here: http://www.gtrotors.com
They don't offer a Lightning set to the general public right now, but I've talked to a guy at GT rotors and they have made a Lightning one-off set recently for an SVO[sic] dealer. I don't have a price yet, I wanted to get an idea of how many people were interested. If enough people are interested, I'll negotiate with them and consider handling a group-purchase.

Im interested in the rotors and what pads they recommend for use with them.

These rotors don't use holes, they are dished dimples. With this design there are no sharp angles where stress cracks would form and more raw rotor heat absorbing mass than a through-drilled rotor and about the same as slotted.
The main reasons for non-flat rotor surfaces are:
1. Reduce weight
Not something you want to do on a big heavy truck. I couldn't count the number of Mustang and Ford truck front rotors I've had to resurface or replace because of severe warping, so I wouldn't touch anything lighter than OEM on a Ford.
2. Lower Temperature
Extra surface area and increased air turbulence increases cooling ability.
3. Scavenge gasses and dust
The pattern on these rotors sweeps the entire face of the pad to drag away brake dust and dirt and provide an exit for the gasses that form and reduce pad to rotor contact.
These rotors are great for number two and three above, plus a forth - they look awesome. The ones on my Corvette have lasted through about 10 hours of hard road course racing and 4 years of hard street driving. Combined with carbon-metallic pads and steel brake hoses, it stops so fast the seatbelt can dislocate your shoulder.
I think I paid $180 each for my Vette, and their price list shows them anywhere from $90 to $220. I'll try and see what kind of price I can get with various order sizes.
BTW, slotted rotors are actually worse than through-drilled because the slot creates two big stress lines at the 90 degree angles at the bottom of the slot. Cracks on slotted rotors tend to go inward where you can't see them, whereas on drilled they are on the surface and immediately visible.

I would be interested, but if they are going to do it Lightning specific, I suggest we have them shave down the size on the rotors and calipers a little. The stock calipers on our trucks are HUGE. This way we could fit 28" Goodyear slicks on. I know BABolt is working on such a project so maybe he can give more input on this.
If know one else is interested do you think they would make me a custom set? Actually, I'm gonna go to their site and see if I can e-mail them.

Depending on the final price I could probable go for this.

Oh *****, another must have goodie. I thought that when I got my driveshaft and active suspension installed I would be done for a while, but I can see that I were wrong. The brakes are really the weak link on this truck, as reports indicate that they fade badly after a few hard applications. How would installing these rotors, pads, and brake lines affect fade? And, does Jim Shaw know about this?

Alphadoggy - Same question: Active Suspension?!? If you're saying there is a driver adjustable / computer controlled shock kit out there somewhere, I'm going to have to get a second mortgage, I can't afford all this. And that would be a must-have mod.
lightning2strikes - This would be a full kit for all four rotors. Not sure about the pads yet.
Tonight I'm going to measure my rotors and get the exact dimensions to GTR. The guy said they could schedule them into production as early as 11/2.

Are these rotors going to be the same as stock except with a bunch of dimples and a coating? Or will they also be of a larger diameter. I think the basic Lightning rotors are just plain too small given the weight of our vehicles. The Porche Turbo has 13 inch rotors vs our 12 inch and the Turbo only weighs 3480 lbs. vs our trucks portly 4600 lbs.. We need BIGGER brakes!
Brimstone and Mark, active suspension is probably a misnomer, but that is what the manufacturer calls it. Its really a passive system, but it looks more promising to me than traction bars. Here's the link to their web site: http://www.activesuspension.com
I will have mine installed tomorrow or Monday, and post the results.
