Whipple Install Help
Hello,
I just installed my Whipple about two weeks ago and can probably help you. Send me an email with your questions. Below are a few things I found:
* You'll need to purchase two longer bolts to replace the supplied ones that go through the doweled holes in the new supercharger manifold. The supplied bolts are too short and won't take the recommended torque without stripping the threads in the lower manifold. About 15 - 20 mm longer than the supplied bolts will be fine. I couldn't locate 12.9 grade socket head cap screws so I went with hex head 10.9 grade (equal to a grade 8 SAE bolt and the vendor I bought the Whipple from said would be fine).
* I also thought the torque values supplied in the instructions for the intercooler bolts was too high. They said 8 ft/lbs which equates to 96 in/lbs. The factory spec is 53 in/lbs. and I went with that along with the recommended Loctite.
* I was unable to snap the boost solenoid onto the new bracket because the bracket was too thick. To avoid snapping off the tab on the solenoid, I installed it as far as it would go and secured it with a tie wrap. It's very secure and is hidden out of site behind the blower when the install is completed.
* You will probably want to install new plugs. Do it while the blower is off, it's much easier.
* A throttle body gasket and thermostat gasket were not included in my kit. I purchased new ones from Ford because I didn't want to be chasing a leak after the install was completed. The part number of the throttle body gasket is F81Z-9E936AA
* The small tubes on the EGR pipe hit the brake booster making installing the pipe impossible. I needed to bend them towards the blower about 1". I "gently" placed the pipe in a vise, backing up the pipe I was bending with a large socket and then coaxed the pipe around the socket to where it needed to be with the palm of my hand. Be very careful not to kink the pipe. I spoke with the vendor I bought the kit from and he said some pipes fit perfectly and some require "reshaping".
It sounds worse than it really is, but I wish I would have known this info before I started my install.

thanks for all the info. i used a dremel to file down the bracket so i could get the boost sensor on. i have got about 1/2 of the kit installed so far. i am waiting until i get my jdm fuel rail kit before i install the s/c. thanks again
i am going to delete the egr parts. where did you find the longer 10.9 bolts at? i have found 8.8 only. also where did anyone find the loctite 262 that is listed for the midplate / intercooler install? i went to every auto parts store in town and hardware stores in town and could not find it. a couple places even checked for the part number but it was not even listed. thanks
