Cool Intercooler #2...

Kaput at 30,385 miles. (First one went at 16,500 miles). Had the oil changed today and the guy asked me if I wanted coolant added to the intercooler reservoir because it was bone dry (I said $@#!%& no). I checked just last week and it was fine.

Although I am disappointed at the recent turn of events, I am still very pleased with this truck. I reckon Bankston will be seeing Go_rila again next week or something.

Why are we suffering this problem? Why won't Ford investigate it? Special Vehicle Team, where are you?

Even 25% of the trucks is too much. After reviewing Tundra's list, it appears as though 61% of us have had a leak.

Luckily, I haven't yet. IMHO, I think the acidic, oily mess on the I/C is the cause, and I'll be installing a K&N breather to the driver's side valve cover and see what happens.

Sixpipes

Sorry to hear the bad news. Let me know whatthey say as far as part backorder status. Mine is still not leaking enough to get thier attention.

I find it hard to believe that a BIG RED FLAG is not going up on these trucks that have gone through 2 intercoolers, 12- 15,000 miles apart

sixpipes = 1,2,3,4,5,6, pipes

As far as the intercooler thingy goes, I am more concerned about what happens when the third one goes south at 45,000 miles and the warranty has expired.

Believe me the flag is up, they know it, and the cost benefit analysis has come up, "cheaper to ignore than to fix". I think Ford could generate an incredible amount of customer goodwill by just admiting their mistakes and doing whatever it takes to send the customer away happy. Instead they spend billions of dollars building brands based on TV commercials, race sponorships ect.. I wonder if any of us would ever consider buying anything other than a Ford, if Ford built a virtualy indestructable truck, that was easy for us to fix ourselves, and in the event that any component was chronic problem(ie intercooler) it would be re-designed and installed free of charge to any orignal owner. That is how you build a unbreakable bond with your customer who then becomes the worlds best saleman for your product. This is business 101 and just plain common sense. Just my 2 cents and they way I run my business.

I have not sent in a report to BON yet because a lot of the info they want is predicated on having the ic replaced, and I am still waiting on the parts for mine. As soon as it is replaced you betcha I will post. However, folks, I think we are just spinning our wheels with this approach. Look what it took to get Ford to come up with a fix for the '99 Cobras. Can you say "class action"?

The intercooler blower sysstem is part of the emissions package and is warrantied for 75,000. If you had one replaced and the second failed just raise hell. I guarantee they will fix it. I have the 100K warranty but you pay $50.00 each time after 36 and when my second one fails I ain't payin the 50 bucks. We need to keep track of the two unit failures because it seems to me that the lemon law is third times the charm and then your entitled to a compltete refund although it will probably take an attorney to get it. I suspect that all of us are going to experience a second failure at 15-20K miles just like the first. Go to BON and fill out a report and be sure and point out its number 2. Do we have any attorneys that are L owners. It's definately time for a letter to Ford.

Personally I expect the 01 intercooler with the new intake installed on my truck for free and a free loaner car to boot and an apology.

I am beginning to think that I must have bought this vehicle in a fit of temporary insanity. What on God's green earth do I need with a vehicle that gets 9 mpg on premium, eats F1's like corn flakes, goes through intercoolers like s__t through a goose, and puts my license in jeopardy every time I get behind the wheel? Like Wes I am beginning to think that I don't need the aggrevation. Perhaps I should dump it while it is still new and shiny, and I can still get a reasonable price for it. I will certainly be looking at other options when I go to the auto show next week, and they certainly won't come from Ford.

It must have been late when I wrote the above. After a few hours behind the wheel today I remember why I bought the damned thing; its just plain fun to drive. Besides, the only other manufacturor I would buy a truck from is Nissan, and they don't make anything that could tow a 6500 lb. boat. Looks like I just have to grin and bear it 'til Ford comes up with the ic fix. Pass the KY, please.
