I got a call yesterday from Ford. They wanted to bring my "F150" in for a week long emmissions profile. She said they would wash it inside and out, fill the tank, and give me a 2001 Ford loaner vehicle in trade for my trouble. I told her it was a Lightning, not a plain F150. She checked and called back and said they still wanted it.

She asked me about 20 questions (mileage, usage, did I tow, modifications, etc...) and then she asked if any engine work had ever been done on it. I told her about the intercooler/blower replacement and she stopped me and said she'd have to check it out. To make a long story short, they don't want any vehicle that has had any engine work done on it. 'Sorry, see ya'.

What a bite! I was going to do a little testing of my own on their loaner!

DH,

Say what? What is that load of crap? What they mean is they don't want to open Pandora's Box. Everything was A-OK til you mentioned your "little replacement."

My truck is at the dealer, been there sence tuesday and probly wont see it till somwtime next week. You can bet your a$s that im gona post at bon, and where ever else i need to. I know we all have been talking about a01 retro fit or the 01 intercooler, but NOBODY knows if the intercooler will leak, the trucks havent hit the streets, publicly anyway. Who knows what thoose i/c are to hold when 15k miles or in my case 20k miles rools around? Personaly yes the truck is being sold probley in about 3-5 months, maybe sooner. I dont have the time to leave my truck in the shop for a week at a time, becuase they(ford) didnt test the damn thing long enough, Will I get a 01 not sure, new cobra they better be a hell of alot better then the 99s, team mustang screwed up royaly. It may take a class action lawsuit against them to fix the trucks, personaly now is the time to do it, with this 99 cobra suit, and the Firestone thing on there backs, kick them while there down.
Sorry about the **** and moning here im just alittle upset.
Rant off

Thumbs up

I agree with whitelightnin'!!!

I'll be danged if I paid all this money and had all this fun just to let some BIG WIG BEAN COUNTERS @ FORD dictate to me what I should drive because it's cheaper to IGNORE this wide spread problem (and fix it ONE at a TIME) then do a recall and get the job done now on everybodys Lightning, all at once!!!
When they recalled my 94 Cobra for a hood that could possible seperate, I didn't have that problem-YET- but they STILL FIXED EVERY MUSTANG that was produced during that period. It wasn't a big recall only about 150,000 mustangs
Does it sound strange, only me, that Ford will fix our intercoolers "With the same defective, to be, units rather then get a better design" and use it the first time?
Maybe Ford is just waiting for us to get disgusted enough to unload all our Lightnings?
I would even be willing to put up a $100.00 or more to participate on a Class Action Law Suit and make Ford give use New Lightnings or what ever if they can't fix it with a proven unit plus attorneys fees.(Remember the 99' Cobras? Class Action!!
It's the squeeky wheel that gets the grease, not the laid back working one!!!
Rant off!!!

Trust me, folks...I don't "give up" on Ford easily. Look at my sig. See anything else but a Ford there? I've got friends that joke with me saying I should open up a dealership in my driveway.

Still...with the number of complaints about the I/C registered on this board, I'd venture to guess that 50-60% of people with over 10k miles on their truck have a leaky I/C or have had one replaced already! If Ford has the replacement parts in stock, and it only takes a day or two...its not a huge deal...unless excessive engine wear has occurred due to burning coolant...and how the heck are they going to check that?

I've had no problems with my truck, except the tire problem I mentioned in a recent post. Part of the problem is my right foot, obviously. I had the new skins put on today (12.4k miles) and had the alignment checked. It was fine. I guess when I had it checked at 9200 miles, the wear pattern had already taken place...it must've been a poor alignment from the factory. Anyhow, I can live with burning up one set of tires.

I will not be able to tolerate having my truck sit in the dealer for month(s) due to Ford's incompetance regarding an I/C leak, and then have the motor go bad at 50k b/c of excessive wear (brought on by an I/C leak more than likely).

In the business I'm in I can use a truckbed every now and then. But my dad has an S10 beater I can borrow anytime. A Z06 Vette with a 100shot of nitrous sure looks good right now...especially since down here in the Big D these trucks are worth a lot. I could probably get $28k for it w/ the new tires.

Sorry for the ramble. I'm trying to be proactive before something bad happens. Hate to be so cynical about it.

Brimstone, planning to go on Wed. the 10th. Got some comp. tickets from my dealer, have to use them by then. Not sure what time I will get there, aiming for about one o'clock.

Cool

I made an appointment with Bankston for next Monday. They replaced my first one and had me back on the road in 3 days. We'll see how the second one goes. I'll post with the results.

Ivanhoe -

As Henry Ford as my witness, I have never regretted buying this truck. The great thing about it is, I can still kick the @%$*& out of 99% of the vehicles on the street without an intercooler (including Chevys). Give it time these Fords kind of grow on you (like a fungus...or something).
