I got rear-ended a couple of months ago. The bumper cover is metal over the bumper frame. My cover, bumper frame and one bracket were replaced because they were tweaked. The cover could have been repaired and painted but because someone else paid I had new ford parts installed. The parts alone were about $800. The total bill was $1,100.

If you decide to stick with OEM, the best place to buy is from (Screen name: FORDSVTPARTS) over on SVT Performance .com. He will sell you parts for 10% over dealer cost if you are a member of the site.

I recently cratered my bumper when I ran into a big metal pole as I was backing out of a store parking lot. I paid $193.00 for the bumper. The bumper is just a metal bar/bumper and it is primed but don't forget the black plastic caps/pads that cover the top of the bumper. One side was $28.38 and the other side was $24.92. I had one of the local paint shops paint the bumper and it was $100.00. Still a ton cheaper than going through a dealer. The price on the bumper was from last year and the price for the caps/pads were in February of this year so I am not sure if the prices are still good but it should give you an idea of what it will cost if you go the OEM route.

BEWARE though: Once I got the new bumper installed and snugged everything down, I realized that I had also bent the supports that the bumper bolts to. I did more damage than I realized when I originally cratered the bumper so now I have to pull the bumper, replace the support brackets on the passenger side and replace the caps/pads again. For some reason I cannot get the caps off without tearing them up and you have to pull them in order to pull the bumper. Make sure you snug down the bumper, look at the alignment and make sure it is right before you put the caps/pads on.

Hope this helps.

Todd
