question about boost on a '02 lightning

i have purchased a cold air intake and are thinking about getting a programmer and a pulley that says it will increased boost by 8lbs. my question is will any of these upgrades hurt the supercharger seals, heads, or my motor in any way?

thanks

A "cold air intake" (and only those that take in air from an outside source could be considered "cold air") won't do any damage.

A "programmer" and "pulley" that increases boost by 8 lbs, and if you mean 8 lbs over stock for a total of 16 lbs boost - if you're not knowledable and or experienced about this, or working with an experienced tuner, this could be trouble.

potentially yes, change your plugs too. With a good Dyno tune you should be fine, but like he said 16 is alot w/out a fuel system or anything...i would play it safe

Yikes, an 8 lb increase seems like a pretty big step; but we don't know details of your current rig, etc.

Make absolutely sure to talk to an experienced tuner, since 8 extra PSI can *easily* make things go boom if not done correctly.

If you are looking for a hand held programable tuner I have one.

I used it once and is UNLOCKED, it is a SCT II. $280 shipped

If I were you I would get a 4lb lower, Xcal2 and some new plugs. The 4lber will be safe, an 8lber on a stock block will make your motor go boom. Powersurge Performance has all the stuff I just mentioned, and Sal is the best tunner, IMO. www.lightningparts.com

I would start with a 4 or 6# pulley, a good programer, and a filter

There are a few good tuners
My choice is JDM, but JLP, PSP would take good care of you as well.

WELCOME AND CONGRATS calhoun44
GREAT CHOICE OF VEHICLES BTW LIGHTNING'S ARE DA SCHITT !!!

Ok here's the deal, if you DO NOT have a built motor and have a regular stock block you DO NOT want to add more than a 4lb Pulley. Some run 6lb with no prob but since your new with the L I would not recommend it (yet).
Buy a Hub and Ring style Adjustable Lower Pulley set up and when the time comes you will always find someone willing to trade/swap a 4lb ring for a 6lb ring. (or you buy one, there's used ones all over and they're cheap).
If you jump right to 6lbs (a 8lb pulley would be insane and almost grrnty a blown motor on a stock block new L owner) you could hurt it BAD.

It's nothing to be afraid of, you just need to read a lot of post and see whats it's all about because it's very easy to add power to them, fairly cheap, but can be dangerous if you over do it... However if performance adding is you game there is no doubt you want a Filter Tune and Pulley. Use a good Lightning Tuner and you'll instantly have a 12 second L and a VERY FAST street rod, (and still be save).

BEST OF LUCK...

HEY DON WHASSUP!!!
