"INTERCOOLER LEAK"
I'm sure that number is quite higher than that. I wouldnt be surprised to see that 50-70 % of the intercoolers have failed.

The majority of owners who have purchased Ford Lightning vehicles do not post at these so called "Forums". I have a very good friend at Ford in Arlington who has been a Ford mechanic for over 10 years. The problem is widespread. Others have told me that 50-60 have complained and posted concerning this issue here at this board. Well this my friend..is a small minute amount of reported failures.. The fact remains that out of the 4900-5000 of these manufactured per year.....FORD WILL DO NOTHING..unless you guys get your **** together and post in the MASSES OVER AT BON! NHTSA will require the info in addition. I am writing the editor at BON...to find out why they pulled the Lighting Intercooler Issue!! Ford has no fix for the '99-00 Lighting at this time. Inaction is just that=nothing will happen. Who has the facts...the total failure for the product? Don't add up the guys on this board and give me a bogus total...we need an insider at Ford...to give BON the real figures...

I now have a gen 1 L and thinking of getting a gen 2 L.....these intercooler and clunking problems are a big factor in whether or not i purchase a gen 2 L....if the intercooler is gonna be such a hassle i will buy another gen 1 L............
Letter to the editor at BON. I want some facts. Not 50-60 that have failed here. I want the totals.
Sir, Why is the Lightning Forum so drastically reduced? Problems are numerous concerning intercooler failure. What is the status concerning retrofit equipment to warranty the problem? Sir, can you ascertain from inside information how many have been replaced to date? Thank You, John L. Wineinger

I think that I hear the whinnying of a bunch of overgrown babies. Just bend over and take it like men. What? You've never been boned before, most of us were when we bought these damn trucks. If it were not for the macho hi-performance image of these things, they would be on the POS list. Face it, you've got intercooler leaks, sheet metal tears in the doors, front end clunks, and a seat that is no better then a K-Mart lounge chair with cheap fabric. I did not even mention the fact that they could not even put the pickup box on straight at the factory let alone the ground effects. Hey! I got a plan lets not talk about the problems, we'll just go out and buy the 2001 model. There will be plenty of suckers (future 'L' owners) for the old ones and we can just brag and gloat about our good fortune and the high quailty of a FORD SVT Lightning.
One more thing boys lets not talk about this anymore, at least give me a chance to unload my L.

How's this for whining:

Just pass the vaseline, please.
Actually, I am looking forward to the L.A. auto show next week when I can go and confront some Ford reps and tell them what a mistake I made in spending $50k on their products last year, and that unless they fix my intercooler so it stays fixed they will never see another dime from me. I know a lot of people on this board like to knock "ricers", but the build quality and reliability of my Lightning doesn't begin to approach that of my (built in Ohio) Honda Civic.

BillyBob, If you don't like it, sell it. I got 13000 miles on my 99L and no problems. The only complaint I have is the driver's side seat belt retractor doesn't retract the slack. But who needs seat belts.
Don't get to smug Shorty, you are just about the mileage that mine went bone dry. I'd be checking under the hood regularly if I were you. Be prepared to eat green fluid!
