Oh yeah! For cost reasons, Castrol and Mobil no longer use a synthetic base. The packaging no longer states full or 100% synthetic. So the're both off my list especially when I can get a real synthetic at the same price.
AMEN !

I got some Quakerstate Q (owned by shell) full synthetic 5w20 for $2 a quart on sale a while back, I bought 48 quarts or it..........

Wink To All Who Like Motorcraft 5=20 Synthetic Blend

To all lightning owners who like motorcraft, 5-20 synthetic blend here is something to think about. 5-20 motorcraft is 2% blend about two table spoons of synthetic who ever can bid the cheapest gets motorcrafts contract. So don't get to happy about motorcraft synthetic blend just my .02 worth.

I like valvoline... that's what my garage uses and we get it for a pretty good price... conventional 5-20 and I really haven't seen any problems with any vehicle as far as oil use is concerned... I use the mobil 1 Mx4 in the bike and since I only change the oil once a year paying $6 a quart for 3.5 quarts really isn't a problem for my wallet.

Its like that for all Ford parts. The cheapest bidder gets the business and the orders these days are mostly going to China like the rest of the Detroit 3.

Head offices will be moving to Beijing shortly. Stay tuned.

You got it wrong bud, Look at the oil analysis of motorcraft 5w 30, the Motorcraft synthetic Blend oil analysis looks pretty good for being a synthetic blend and not a full synthetic.

Actually the Motorcraft 5w-20 tests near the top of its class. It is actually a very good oil. But hey, to each his own. It used to be made by Conoco but I am not sure who makes it now.

My point is that Motorcraft meets OEM specs like almost all oils available and therefore does pretty well the same job. Since its a private label, Ford can change suppliers at any time as long as they meet their specs.

All oils do a decent job. The important thing is to change it often. On two identical engines where the owners change their oil every 3K, where one uses synthetic and the other non-syn. Over the first 100K, in a teardown, I doubt you could measure the difference.

I used Mobil 1 previously and now use Amsoil exclusively.

This is the last oil thread that I get involved in.

I agree if you change your oil on a 3k interval, you won't see a major difference.
Synthetics are designed for people who have tendency to forget or are too busy to get an oil change within the required interval or for people who just want the best stuff for their engine. I use Amsoil for now, But I might be trying some other synthetic oils in the future to see the difference.

Exclamation Question About Oil Mixing???

Question what about mixing 3 quarts of motorcraft, synthetic blend with 3 quarts of full synthetic oil. would this not be about 50% synthetic and 50%
dino oil???. This could be the best way to go.

Oil

I'm due to change the oil in the L.
Only got her 4 weeks ago and she only had 5k on the clock. 6k now
Looking at oil and I got a big pot of synthetic made by Comma, done a bit of searching and the same company that makes Mobil 1?!! I've also picked up a Fram filter from the local guy that kinda looks after the yanks over here. I'm in Scotland and as a new L owner I'm kinda Shi**in myself if I do wrong.

Oil over here for 5 quarts is $70 and fuel is $2 a litre.....boy you guys got it made.....

I would use a different filter. FRAM is by far the worst oil filter on the market.

The best filters are here...

Buy a case and you won't have to worry about filters for a while.
