Question Stealability of the L?

Has anybody had their gen 2 L stolen? I just watched "Gone in 60 Seconds" and wonder how deterring the L's matched key signal security system is. Have any of you added extra security, and if so, what? The top 10 most stolen cars usually includes a 4x2 F150. Wonder if any of those were Lightnings?

I think the only one I've heard of is the member that left the keys in the tailgate. The Securilock system must see that computer code key or it will disable the ignition so hotwiring is pretty much out of the question. Fooling the computer is pretty much out to because there are something along the line of 7 quadrillion(literally) combinations for the key sequence. The first year it was introduced was in Europe and the only cars the were stolen were either towed or put on a rollback and hauled away.

The day I bought my truck the dealer could only find one key. They quickly made another and told me if they found the other lost original, they'd call.

Well, they called about a week later and I picked it up. I was going to put it in one of those hide-a-key magnetic holders in case I locked my keys inside. Something told me I better check it. The key unlocked the switch and steering wheel, but the truck wouldn't start. Glad I checked and glad for the system. Guess I need to have all three keys programmed together.

Since they started using transponder keys, thefts of the f150's have dropped dramaticly. But some still do get stolen. One of my towing friends had a guy just last week call to tow a car. When he started to hook it up, a lady came out of the house screaming, saying thats her car! So he knocks the guy down & detains him til the police show up. The guy already had some warrants, & is going down for a few. If she didn't see him who would've known? Other ways: Carjacking. If they need it & can't steal it, Guess what! Or they will break loose the steering, & push or pull with another car. I've seen this done before. Lastly they can bring another ign. switch & cpu, & install them if they have a little time, or get a dealer to make a key! Most theives are lazy. Make it hard as you can for them! Lloyd

Some more intersting info: The odemter, eec and the Keys all have to be programed togeather for the vechile to start. So basicly the carjacker has to have a eec, the key, and a odemeter programed togeather switch them out tobe able to drive off with the truck. Or they can just take them from you!

I read somewhere about a remote controlled engine shut-off. That would be cool if you survived the carjacking. You could safely shut the engine off a block away.

Of course this article was about cops having these remotes and the receivers were mandatory on cars of parolees. LOL!

Whateve it takes to get the credentials of a locksmith are all you need to steal one. I have read that the equeipment to make new keys can be bought by any "registered locksmith", but I have no idea what that entails or how much the equipment would cost. Mine's insured, I really don't worry about it.

A good tuner can knock the anti-theft out with a chip, but how many tuners are desparate enough to be out stealing Fords.
Either way, next time ya go to the store, check out how many people are staring at you, well, the Lightning, like personal security guards while I go shopping.
At home, my shepards make enough noise to keep people away.

Cheers
