Question ROLLCAGE ANYONE

I was wondering if anyone will be planning on adding an NHRA legal roll cage to their trucks??
I know it seems a bit extreme, but it is needed for sub 12.0 runs. I think if properly done, it would look great and not be annoying for daily driving.

Anyone??

Ruslow has already done it so he can run the Silver State, etc. You might want to check out this thread: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/002453.html

Within the month{I hope}will have windshield cut out and dash out for the cage to go in.Looking at the back bars on how I want to run them threw the back glass. All depends on the amount of work I have to do to keep all my toys.
Already have HALO made and fitted and the remainder of dom tubing for the bars and bracing.

I am aware of Ruslows cage, and it looks great, hope to see some PICS of it real soon.
Is there a difference in requirements for a road race cage and a drag cage??

Ruslow,
Is yours bolted or welded in place at the frame and floor pan??

Spiro, the roll bar bolts in and has back up plates underneath. The rules are different in the size of tubing and material moly tube has to be normalized after welding so they try and discourage the use of it you still have to use the same size for the weight of our vehicles so there is no advantage to using it.Thats why mine is dom.But the basics are the same as far as plate sizes and attach points.
Now the cage will be welded in[tig]so when it is in the only way to get it out will be cutting. Will be a royal pain to paint!!!!!But the safety factor will be 10 fold, especially at 165.

Having a car that is set up to run 10.00 in _completely legal_ NHRA/IHRA trim, I can tell you that a bolted in cage will get you tossed at a track where the tech is stringent...like WFC or something big like that.

Get an NHRA rule book. It would be well worth it, given what you're going to have to go through expense-wise to get it right...both for daily driving and for racing legality purposes.

I don't know if open road racing rules are different than track road racing rules for cages, but for drag-racing the side bars must be in the proper spot (height-wise as they run diagonally) or you can get DQ'd for that, too. Many people try to bend the rules here (no pun intended) by having the sidebars done just a bit low. This makes entry and exit much easier for daily driving, but a strict track tech will have you sit in the car and then make sure it goes up b/w your elbow and shoulder. Dropping it down jus 2-3" can DQ you.

I haven't followed the rules for trucks as far as where the rear bars that protrude into the bed must go, so I can't give you a lot of help here. Just get the rule book.

I was just talking about this with my buddy, and he was trying to talk me into the whole roll cage thing, and I know eventually I going to be in the 11's but for now I don't want that ugly thing in the truck. If there was a way to make one lagal and so you wouldn't have to cut up the back window and the front dash then I would have one done. This is like in a year from now.

Cool

I think in Irha you can go 11.5 before a roll cage is required. you might want to go that route. later

Everyone has a opipion on this one.But I FEEL that I would much rather explain the cage or roll bar to the dealer and still be alive if something were to happen than be dead without one.
They have rules for a reason and when you consider the weight of the truck comparedc to the cars I feel it should be required anywhere quicker than 12.5s and a driveshaft loop period.
Just my thoughts. And that is why I am putting a cage in mine for.I think that I am worth a bit more than my trucks resale value is after its done!!!!

I agree with RUSLOW. If the dealer has a problem with it oh well...My life is worth more than the truck is.

REALITY1,
Yes, into the 11's.
