Post First Oil change

My L is comming up for 1000 miles so I feel it is about time for it,s first oil change.
I purchased Valvoline 5W-30 oil along with a Bosch filter.
I have read not to use fully synthetic until about 3000 miles. What is the opinion here?
Also the book says to change oil at 3000, I feel that is too long for the first change. In case of any loose stuff from the engine build. Again what milage did you guys first change the oil?
Thanks to all that voice an opinion.

Hilander,

Change it to get the break-in metal particles out. Obviously, the oil is not worn out, but full of microscopic metal particles. I've rebuilt many engines and pay attention to this stuff and even the best filters don't seem to get it all out. I changed mine at 1,200 miles and I'm glad I did.

As far as synthetics go, I have read and heard the same things as you. But, there are many manufacturers putting synthetics in the factory fill. Corvette for one. But you should do what you feel comfortable with. SVT said not to do synthetics until 5k miles. I dunno. Worked fine for me.

I'll bet you can get more opinions on this as any other topic, but:
I changed filter (Motorcraft) @ 1000. Added Ford 5W30 to top off.
Changed oil & filter @ 2500--Valvoline DuraBlend 5W30 & Motorcraft filter.

Change oil & filter at every 2500 using Valvoline DuraBlend& Motorcraft.

I like to change often--so I don't buy full Syn. or Premium filters.

Just another opinion.......

Hilander,
Be careful about the filter you use. The recommended Motorcraft filter is the FL-820S. This filter has a flap in it to prevent backflow. Not all filters do. I believe the "S" designates this flap. I put synthetic oil in at 3,000 miles. Your plan sounds good to me.

I also changed mine at 1000 miles, and put in mobil 1, no problems. My 00 Cobra R came with Mobil 1 in it from the factory also (15w-50).

The "S" in the FL-820S designates a Silicon anti-drain back valve. My daily driver 95 Contour SE has the same filter, it does a great job of keeping the oil in the top end for cold starts.
