ADDED FIRST MOD TO MY LIGHTNING
just wanted to show you guys my stereo install as of now. the custom boxes are covered with vinyl and allow for complete reclining and horizontal slide of the seats. the center console can even be rotated when the seats are all the way back. the empty spot in the amp rack is for another amp that will run my speakers. the amp in there now runs my subs.
and a closeup of the subs...
and a closeup of the amp...
Just wanted to know what you guys think. The amp puts out 1100 watts to my subs, and the amp i intend to add later will put out 75 watts by 4 channels when i add it.

Looks incredible but you need to be aware:

Very nice!! I've been wanting to add something to my Lightning, but I really like the storage box thats there. What you did is real nice and I could still incorporate a storage box in the middle were you are going to put the other amp. Anyway you've given me something to think about. Good luck on the rest!!

alphadoggy,
I was wondering about the roadmaster suspension kit, How is it? Do you like it in the twistys beter than stock or has it help just straight line performance?
By the way you have a great combination of flat straight roads and twistys in your area!

it is quite easy to replace the in dash radio for an aftermarket deck, but from most of what i have heard, it is very rare, if impossible, to attach the existing changer to the setup. you may have to sacrafice the changer in order to get a CD in the dash.

Say what? I'm deaf enough already without blasting my eardrums with 1100 watts. Who listens to music in an L., anyway, it just makes it more difficult to hear the supercharger scream. And under your planned mods, I don't see anything about chip, filter, and gears. Holy moses, man, don't you care whether you can beat a C-5? J/K.
Don't take this personally, I am just jerking your chain a little, it is an awsome looking set-up. What I would really like to know from you audio guys, though, is how hard it would be to change out the stock in-dash tape player for a CD player. I don't know who the moron is who decided to put CD's in back, and tape in front, but I would like to be able to play a CD without the cassette changing hassle. Any suggestions?

jstovall, i am hard pressed to answer that question. i never established a base line, and something like traction is really hard to quantify since it varies so much on different surfaces under varying circumstances. the short answer is, i think it helps, i don't seem to get sideways as easily on launch. i feel certain they will improve the towing so they are definitely staying on the truck.
Did you make that set-up by yourself- because it looks awesome. What dimensions did you use for the boxes (ie what interior volume did you use?). The only reason I ask, is because I was just over John893's house talking about the box he's planning for his L, and what we had planned (although only one sub), looks pretty similar. Up until now I didn't consider myself a stereo guy...but after seeing your set-up I'm jealous and might have to convert. Good job. Later...

Nice setup. where's your cd changer located? Did I miss something? Mine is installed above the passenger side subwoofer neatly tucked away for easy access.
Going inside the utilty box got on my nerves after awhile. Plus, the stock system that comes in the "L" is *delicate* at best.
The twin boxes were fabricated to fit behind both seats and allow for 100% seat function. I'm 6'3" and need all the leg room I can get.

zbornac,
That is a sweet setup. I really like how you have the amp imbedded in the box, flush with the edges. I too am wondering what are the space requirements for those subs? I am looking to build a box that needs .6 cubic feet per sub, just wondering if the dimensions you used will work. Thanks.

Hey man don't let them old guys dis the system in the beast. The first thing I ever did in mine was the stereo. And when you put your caps in, put them in the back speaker locations, works good.

sorry guys, I had the boxes made at a shop in Mountain View, CA. they had done some work for me on a 98 ranger that i was very pleased with. because of this, i never knew the dimensions for any of it. if it helps at all you can look at the specifications of the subs online at http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/image...ofer_Specs.gif (make sure you look at the ST104D, as that is what i installed)

the changer is temperarily located on the center hump on the floor. i just covered the wire with some plastic tubing and ran it under the seat. the changer isn't attached in any manner, i just put a single side of velcro on the back so it will grab the carpet and not slide. the changer will most likely be coming out when a new deck goes in. I understand your need for full leg room, as i am 6'6". the car accomodates our height quite well.
RTKILLA-----
i like the idea of putting the cap in the rear speaker location, but i have already replaced the speakers. plus i was planning on getting a digital model that shows the stored voltage. do you think there is anyway to wire the cap up so that i could see the voltage on my overhead console? add it into the compass/thermometer so that when i hit the button a third time it shows the voltage. that would be cool.

There's always a way to do it, but just how much money do you want to spend and who are you going to find to do that. I would scrap that Idea. I want to put a TV in mine with the two head units so I think I'm going to mount the screen above the rearview mirror, that might be an option for you to display the readings of you caps.
