Sounds like a good plan to wait and save for the motor 
Since your into the Road Racing I agree that you need to discuss this with the builder and tuner, and as someone said pick your cams carefully.
Lots of Vendors can hook you up and the two you mention both build nice built motors so your thinking is good

sent out emails to JDM,JLP,WMS, AND WMS about there long blocks today. Looks like i will be running my ported eaton with the long block. What kind of #s are people seeing with a good long block and a ported eaton? what kind of pulley combos? etc. thanks for any info anyone can give me.
