Exclamation Cheap HID conversion

I was at a local book store and was flipping through the new Dec. Bimmer mag, and they had a really interesting article about converting a late model E36 M3 with HID lights. Guess what they were using parts from Ford.
The HID parts are for the 97 Linclon Mark VIII, and the total cost of the parts were only $400. The parts were 2 balast, the HID bulbs, and a few other minor parts to make them fit.
This really sparked my interest in doing this to my '01 and I was wondering if anyone knew if this would work.

Lightbulb

I'm going tomorrow to buy the mag(Bimmer) and read the article. I only glanced through it at the store the other day, didn't have enought change to buy it. I remember they listed the balast and bulb part numbers, and they said that this conversion works on 9005/9006 bulbs. If I remember F150 uses 9007 bulbs and I was wondering if anyone out there knows if we can convert it.

You can put the 9006 bulb in the 9007 socket BUT you have to custom fit it to stay in there (DO NOT USE HOT GLUE) and you will not have high beams. Plus make sure you get the right bulb: the D2S bulb is for Ellipsoidal Headlamp System, and the D2R bulb is for Freeform Headlamp System. Positioning of the bulb will also make a difference when installing.
