Post Who else read the new MMFF

I picked up my new MMFF last night, and to my amazment they put a full bassani kit on there L. Now I know all of you have had no gains from exhaust but they got 13hp and 26trq at the rear wheels from the kit. To mo that sounds good. Not to mention the new sound from the kit. I really like the way the bassani's sound on the mustangs, I just hope they sound that good on my L.
Now I was talking with rick anderson about the bassani and he said to scrap the cats if you can and you'll see a much bigger improvment with the hp and trq. About 15 to 20 more without cats. That sounds like atleast three to four tenths right there for us, and some good sounding exhaust.
Has anybody here taken off there cats on the L just to see what kind of gains they'll get, I know those cats are supposed to be restrictive as all hell.

I read the article. The part I have a hard time figuring out is :

How can so many people put the headers and exhaust system on their 2nd. Gen. L's and see no gain, but the mag. people do it and magically find HP. Could it be the tools they used, or a different way of installing the system ?

If you think about it, if they did an article on something and it made no more HP than the stock part, it wouldn't sell many mags.

Please someone explain it to me so I can see clearly again.

I have wondered the same thing but alot of the guys on here have only done a cat back system. The stock system from the cats back is great. The thing is that bassani uses new cats on the kit and they also said that the stock manifolds are small compared to the new bassani's. It has to be true cause I've talked with one of the biggest ford guys around and he said that yes the bassani kit will make a difference, the bassani kit also comes with a x pipe too. I never thought that a x pipe would increase horsepower until my buddy put one on his stang and gained about 20 horse power from it(keep in mind his car puts out about 650 horse, so 20 really isn't that much). Who would think that It would. The bassani kit also has two mufflers witch is supposed to help it flow alot better then a single.

Now think about when you get the heads done on the truck also, with this done you should get alot more gain from them now that the exhaust is allowed to breath that much better. I'm sure if your truck is bone stock you probably won't get that much from a exhaust kit, but when you have alot of mods the exhaust should help alot right. I hope so or else I'm wasting my time with this exhaust.

The $ cost per h.p. has never made sense to me....

$1500.00 for 15-20hp?

I can do alot of mods for that money.

Just my .02

$1500.00 for 20hp?!!!!

That's a start towards a new Holley Thunder kit. Money well spent. I wish I had it to spend.

I agree with TampaBayLightning. 1500 bones is a little too much for better sound and small gains, I think the truck sounds good now. Besides, for that much money you could get enough rice boy stickers to completely cover the entire vehicle - now that should make it really fast!

Now if they drop the price to like...um...500 bucks they might have a deal.

Hey Guys,
Here's my take on the Bassani kit. I put the whole kit on my '99 truck and I did the install myself and no you can't put it on wrong !! Anyway, the sound was GREAT and I thought the truck would be a terror on the strip, it had equal length headers two small cats instead of 4 big factory ones and two high-flo mufflers so I figured it would melt the strip. Not the case. I gained absolutely ZERO with it. My best was a 12.95 with the full Bassani. I sold my '99 truck in October for a brand new '00 and you know what I ran with the stock exhaust and 1400 miles ???
13.02 !!! .07 hundredths for $1,500.00 !!??!
No Thanks. The reason that exhaust system doesn't work well on stock motors is because the valves in the heads are so small!! It's simply overkill, kind of like putting a 4" exhaust on a stock 5.0 Mustang.

Rob,

I agree. It's nothing but a 360 hp air pump. All the exhaust in the world won't help a suffocated head and cam setup. Until we have better hardware like the G1 boys have available to them, we're stuck with the simple mods.

I guess no one here has ever thought of taking their mufflers off. I gained a consistent .2 atleast, and 2mph.

Cost: $0

Question

Tundra,
Did you take the cat-back off at the track to get a comparison ??? I'm just wondering because I've seen a guy run straight pipes on his '99 L and I mean the WHOLE thing. No Cats, No mufflers !!! His best was a 13.43.
I run a Superchip and PSP filter kit and I run 13.0's with mine. Unless you have a built motor don't waste your money on the fancy exhausts. Just my take on it.
