Question Recomendations for Digital Camara Software?

Looks like I will be getting the wife a digital camara for Christmas (I love it when I buy her stuff that is really for me!!) I have seen a bunch of neat pictures posted here so I was wondering what software I should be looking at getting to enhance and post the pictures. I really liked the pictures of the Lightning where he edited the different colors. I would also like to get software that makes it easy to post on the web.
Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. I am getting the Sony DSC-P1 which is suppose to be pretty highspeed, so it should be able to support any software.

Adobe Photoshop!!!!

It's hands-down the best photo editing program ever.

If you are going to be serious about digital photography, photoshop is the the way to go. But, if you are only snapping a few pics here and there, Adobe Photodeluxe is a good start. It comes with many cameras and even if you buy it separately its quite cheap. But the best part is that it is basically a simplified interface to the photoshop engine. They use the same imaging core.

That said, I use Photoshop and have been using it since version 1.5

How much fun can I have with the photoshop. I have seen some that you can chop the heads off some people and put others on their bodies. Can you change the colors of cars like silverbullet did in his post "just playing around with colors"? That is kinda important to me since I am considering painting my mustang next year. Also, I understand that on some you can make calanders and business cards. Other than messing around with stuff like that, I will just be using it every now and then to clean up pictures and make greeting cards. Thanks, Jeff

Thumbs down

Adobe is trying to rip you off; I have seen Photoshop 6 for as low as $599 elsewhere. :-)
Unless you are a graphics professional it doesn't make sense to buy a program that probably costs more than the camera you have in mind. I agree with Nathan and Noel, PhotoDeluxe should be adequate for most of your purposes, and the interface is much user friendlier than Photoshop. It came bundled with both of my digicams; check and see what software comes bundled with the camera you want, it is probably quite adequate.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will be getting the camara in the mail this Friday or Monday so I will see what programs come with it then. If nothing else I think I will go with microsoft ($100 and I know it will go with my Windows 2000 which some programs will not go with) and probably the the photoshop delux since it is so inexpensive ($90 new or $12-20 ebay). It certainly appears that photoshop is the best, but there is no way I will appreciate $600 worth of photo software, especially when I could be spending that extra money on my Lightning!!! Yahoo, more $$ for the bolt, just the excuse I needed!! Can't wait to be able to post some pictures of her. Jeff

Yea, 600 bucks and not particularly user friendly. Now that we've heard from the snobs--buy Adobe photo deluxe. Get ver 1 or 2 on ebay for about $10. They are easier to use that the unpdated version which is not very user friendly and a step backwards. You can do just about everything mentioned above except changing the colors.

BulldogSVT, Thanks for your e-mail and the software, can't wait until I get to use it. The camera is suppose to come with MGI photosuite, although I do not know what version. Jeff
