Post Question on the CLUNK.

I was just wondering if anyone has fixed the clunk on their trucks yet. Ford has tried to but the problem is still their. I was thinking of just getting new upper and lower control arms for mine. Would this stop the clunk. The L's are the same as the regular f150's as far as ordering purposes for the control arms right?
I just can't take it anymore. I had them try to fix it three times now. When you get girls in the truck and you back up out of a parking spot it just sounds so bad to hear that from this beatiful truck. I just tell everyone that Its normal and it has to do with the super modified racing suspension that svt put in the truck. HAHAHA they don't really know and they don't have to. but seriously this is got me madd. almost as much as my intercooler. which I had fix once already. please don't tell me to cause I posted on the ford problem thing already. Anyone else get this mad from that. Originally I thought I was the only one until I got on here and started talking to you guys. I don't feel so bad about my driving now.

RTKILLA, Just change the lower control arms for the lightning and make sure they order the lightning svt part which is specific for our trucks. arms have little green SVT stickers on them. when the arms are changed make sure you have them remove all the frame wax from the areas that the control arms touch. it was done on my truck this way and finally the problem is gone. good luck 95rcobra.

Had mine replaced free at the dealership. Both lower arms. $120.00 each if you buy them yourself.

third time's a charm. Try Arlington Heights Ford, after they didn't fix it twice I got the customer satisfaction survey (abt the truck in general) from Ford. After saying I would NEVER buy another Ford, damn the service manager called me and now it's fixed. (Don't know for how long). Three months and no clunk.

Both my lower arms have svt sticker and had clunk had STAR WASHER put on and no more clunk. No clunk for 6 months now. I fell like an AA member just counting the days one day at a time.

RTKILLA, there has been plenty messages posted concerning the clunk issue. I was probably one of the first to get the "real" and final fix back around January this year. Do a search on "clunk" and user "redlite", and you will see some of what I wrote about the fix.

To me the biggest problem with the clunk was in demonstrating it to the Dealer. You will note in my description that I found a parking lot near the dealer where there was a crowned portion (on two sides) that allowed me to speed over the crown making sharp right turns. Reproduced clunk with just about every turn. Then the tech put the microphones on the suspension and quickly pin-pointed the problem. You or the Dealer should at least check the control arms for the correct part numbers (listed in my 01/29/00 post). You could have the correct control arms, but are missing some other essential part, or you need to get that frame wax or whatever it is off.

I took my L into Fairway Ford last week to have the infamous clunk fixed. Here is what the service invoice said:

Exclamation

If you just want to stop the noise then crawl under there and grease the steering stops. My '99 did it so I greased the stops on my '00 and have never heard it once. The lower arm still moves around like everybody's does but no clunk.
