Did some cleaning last weekend...

Well, I got together with rotorwash this weekend and we did some cleaning on my truck. We cleaned out the intercooler with about 10 cans of carb cleaner and a lot of water. We also installed a ported eaton, c&l upper plenum (Thanks for the parts!) NGK plugs and added some fuel through my xcal until I can get a dyno tune.
Anyway here are some pics...
Pretty nasty

Clean now

Eatons next to each other

Well, I gave it a wot run with the 4lb and 2bl upper on the ported eaton... only 10lbs of boost all the way to redline. I don't see why I'm not going up in boost? Actuator maybe?

Hey Joe, I dont know whats up on the boost. With just the pulley on top that was already on it should have seen 11 psi. With the addition of the #4 on the bottom you should be seeing at least 15-16 psi. Something doesnt add up. Recheck everything and make sure you dont have a vaccum leak. How does the truck feel? could it be the boost guage? That SC should really sound off spinning it that fast. Keep me posted.

Just to confirm what you have, the top pulley is the 2.75 pulley from KB. It should produce about 11 psi. I added the KB 9.25 crank pulley to my truck which, combined with the top pulley, made 16 psi. My pulley ratio was 3.36 and the SC RPM's were about 17,472 @ 5200 RPM's. After the port job it made the same amount of boost but, through datalogging, I saw a drop in the charged temps. It made good power on the dyno.

Well, I don't think its the gauge. I can hear the charger surging at full throttle. Its like the actuator is partially open or something. It sure is loud now. I finally got my tunes from RWTD and the truck feels really strong until it starts the whole surging deal.

Does the boost on the guage surge with the SC or is it steady? you may be correct, swap the actuator with the old one and see what you get. By the way, How's your A/F since the tune?

Yeah the gauge is bouncing between 9 and 10 psi while you can hear it. I can't get over how loud it is to be an eaton. My a/f is great now. It stays around 14.0 and 14.9 cruising around town and at wot it drops to about 11.5.
The next thing on my list is putting my drop shackels on today. Then the egr system is coming off. I'll keep you posted on the actuator. Maybe it will get done today...

Did you notice any difference in horsepower gains after such a cleanup...Im sittting at 40,000. Im thinking it's time for a cleanup myself...

Not to abandon thread, but does the oil separator work and is it worth it.. It isnt a part of my weekly mods but, Ive heard pro's and con's of the oil separator. I have even heard of a guy installing oil separator and it throwing codes.... ??????

Well, these pictures are the result of 89K miles and no seperator. I would get one. Mine will be here soon. If you have the extra cash ($200) I would go for the L&S kit. From what I hear it is the best cause it is maintenance free.

Performance wise I haven't been able to really stand on the gas and build boost. I am stuck at 10lbs right now and don't know why.

The porting was done by Stiegemeier. Go to their website and check it out.BTW they are on sale right now.

I called JDM today and they think it is the result of belt slip. My new belt will be here in the morning. I disconnected the boost bypass solenoid and nothing... made a lot of noise though. Then swapped the actuators and same result. So, hopefully it is the belt.

I forgot about the belt, you did mention a little slipping with the stock set up and we re-used the same belt. You may need to add a metco idler in the future.

L&S oil seperator.... I just installed one last week, the day after we cleaned 01SLVRBLT's IC, so I havent had time to run the truck enough to see how its doing. I had an oil seperator from LFP and it was doing a good job. I cleaned the stone filter about every 3 weeks and emptied the jug on a weekly basis. It trapped alot of oil so it had to be working. Some oil was still getting through but no where near what it was before.

Hey Joe, save your coins we still have a trip to RWTD coming up. My traction bars, pulley and plugs will be here next week. After the Dyno retune it will be Tranny time
