seat surgery
Had the dealer put the washers on the control arm bolt, along with an alignment, and tire rot. They also put a new seat cushion on the driver side. I think I'm gonna take out the seat myself this week and put in some extra padding to try to prevent a repeat. Gonna also modify the frame of the seat back like someone here posted fairly recently to try and relieve the pressure on the old kidneys. Will post the results of the seat surgery.

I took the seat out and took apart the bottom part to expose the seat frame. I rolled some carpeting (like that used for speaker boxes) around the bolster support bar. Wrapped several layers and taped down. Added an additional layer of dense 1/4" foam to the top of the cushion for additional protection of the cover. When I get in and out, can't feel the bar anymore. Looks like it will work fine.

It was cold this morning so I decided to see if I could "shorcut" it a little. I first leaned the seat back forward and was able to unclip and unzip the uphostery to gain acess to the lumbar bar. Then I did as WHAT04 said and used a prybar to spread the lumbar frame out. Seat is now way more comfortable!! (upholstery is a little loose but I can always go back and hit the foam with a little spray glue to tack it down)
After succeeding in step 1 without removing the seat I decided to try step 2 also (the bottom cushion). I removed the black side trim from the seat which includes the power seat switch, and then was able to reach under and unhook the plastic upholstery retainers. This allowed me to pull the cushion and upholstery up to access the offending bar. I looked around the shop and found some foam pipe insulation so I cut it up and wrapped the bar and taped it. I also stuffed some into the "trench" in the seat foam. It sure is more comfy and looks like it should hold up better but I don't see any way to keep the outer edge of the seat cushion from flattening over time when the driver weighs 270 plus!
This whole operation took about 30 minutes and I would definitely recommend the seat back mod to any body who has experienced the "kidney crush"
