Post Caltacs and Preloading

Anyone offer any advice on preloading Caltracs. Also I warn anyone with full Bassani, who adds Caltracs, will be needing a torch.

How can you post such a statement and leave us hanging? What did you have to torch? Your truck, your Bassani, or your Caltracs?
I have the full Bassani and my Caltracs are in the mail.
Did you get an increase in ET off of your Caltracs? Thanks for your time and help with this matter.

First thing to do with caltracs: get each tire on a seperate scale if possible and use the cal-tracs to balance L and R sides with you in drivers seat and however much gas you have in the tank at the track. In my case the truck was quite a bit unbalanced which was part of the reason I was having traction problems and going sideways. One full turn of the bar = approx. +/- 26 lbs. So one side of my truck is slightly higher (unnoticeable unless I tell you) than the other but the weight is 50/50.

Once you have this set, mark the points and always turn both sides the same amount to maintain balance.

Besides that the best thing to do is spend a day at the track or with a g-tech and practice launches while adjusting the load.

When you did the bassani kit, did you put the cats on the truck or not. I'm not going to put them on mine and I was just wondering If you get more et without them. The guy mike from lightning performance told me of some guy he new that took of his cats and he gained about 30 horse power. Haven't put my bassani on yet, but where going to get snow soon so I' will be.

Im sorry. Dogleg you will need to have one of the Basani pipes just before the tips, bent in order to clear the Caltracs. The more I have done to my tuck the slower it has run.
Brimstone thank you for the advice. I will take it. All this tinkering is difficult. At Sears Point our local track, there are so many cars, your lucky to get in 2-3 runs. And its not exactly easy to test using a g-tech in San Francisco. Guess Ill go find a road somewhere.
RTKILLA. I have my cats on. California frowns on that.

Cool

RTKILLA, i took my cats off this summer and did not gain at the strip.this was with bassani headers and cat back, and all i gained was noise.the 30 hp probably was from someone with long tube headers and no cats, not shorty headers like the bassani.before spring arrives my L will have long tube headers,no cats and either straight pipes or cat back. later ooL 12.926 107.74

Hey Calightnin,
Sorry for being slow, but I just got my caltracs in and wish to put them on tomorrow. Can you tell me what you mean by bending the pipe a little bit. Will I have to take the pipe to a exhaust shop to have them bent it or do you mean a little heat and a hit with a hammer? Thanks for your time and help with this matter.

Alvin, You will be going to the exhaust shop and having someone bend the tube, and re-weld. Not major, but you can't do it with a hammer. I would suggest you go there first. Take Caltracs with you. idg@home.com
