trailer brake light

Do your guys' trailer brake light come on when you apply the brakes, even when the trailer brake is not being used? the red light is kind of annoying.

what is the trailer brake light? where is it located? the only trailer brake that turns on on mine is the light on the trailer when it's attached, and thats only when i hit the brakes.

IF you are talking about the light on a brake control that someone added to the truck. Some have a little dot (light) that comes on when you hit the brake and some don't. If you don't like it, get a new brake control.

It was on the truck when I bought it. It is located on the bottom part of the dash under where the ignition key goes. There is a little lever on the side and when you push it, it gives a reading of 0.0 to 3.5, whatever that means.

It seems someone installed an electronic trailer brake controller. Just reach under the dash near your right knee and unplug it when not towing.

No it doesn't go up with nothing hooked up. I will probably just unplug when I am not using it. So if these didn't come on the L from the factory how does the trailer brake work without it?

the only way it works is if you have electric brakes on your trailer. if you dont have an aftermarket electric trailer brake controler and you pull a trailer equiped with electric brakes then you wont have any trailer brakes. you'll just have to use the truck's brakes to stop the trailer.
