Replacing the mufflers

Hey what's up guys. I've got a slightly modded L, intake, pulley and programmer. I am intersested in making my L a little louder, but don't have the money for a 500 dollar cat-back system. How hard is it to just replace the mufflers on the stock exhaust? Is it a 2 1/2 inch inlet and outlet? I was thinking of trying the Flowtech Afterburner, because I read an article in Car Craft a while back that said they thought these sounded the best compared to a few other ones. What kind would you guys recommend? thanks

It's doable, just get the correct inlet/outlet size and measure for clearance, as for the flowtech's heard the name but never checked out the product, if your going custom don't limit yourself there are tons of options- I looked into going to custom route and I know Dynomax and Borla both have race mufflers that fit the bill.

I did this when I bought mine. I went with DynoMax Super Turbos 2 1/2" cost me $200 having it done. I really like the sound looking to add long tubes next. Good luck.

Regardless of the muffler choice your not going to gain a ton of power, maybe 5HP, I've always had good luck with Dynomax, as for the swap the key is measuring the available space and chosing a muffler package that fits not the other way around, I'm sure you'll find 6-10 solid choices from cheap to steep.

I have run 50 series,40series,staight pipes nocats 4inch tips,12"glasspacks nocats. The glass packs with no cats have sounded by far the best. 50 series no cats was way to mello. 40series no cats was a little better. Straight pipes nocats and 4inch tips was like WTF. Couldnt hear yourself think at 50 mph. The glasspacks sound good at start up and really talks at WOT,plus they were only 30 bucks for both. You still have great supercharger whine and heads turnin whe you put it to the floor

I run no mufflers, instead replaced with a x-pipe. I love the sound! I had Magnaflows and some other off brand muffler but this is by far my fav I have heard. It is pretty quiet at idle but WOT it's a monster. It is a cheap swap too I think I paid $150 installed. This is with stock manifolds and all 4 cats.

Which is why I would never install a loud exhaust.
