Lubrication of Ball Joints?
Hello to all:
I was performing the 15,000 mile scheduled service today on the L when I noticed in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide, under Additional Services for Light Trucks, that Ford requires inspection and lubrication of 4x2 ball joints.
Having observed that there are no zerk grease fittings on the ball joints, I was wondering how do you go about lubricating these joints?
Hope this isn't a dumb question, but at least, now it has been asked.
Thanks in advance.

PBGas is right you can't really service them you just have to inspect them and make sure that the are ok and not damaged or wearing out! I recently lowered my L and took the upper a-arm apart from the spindle, on the drivers side I put a small cut in the ball joint boot, but it should be ok because the upper ball joint doesn't carry as much of a load as the lower one does, I'll just have to keep a close eye on it and make sure its ok from time to time
Not serviceable. Designed to last 31,000 miles. When they get loose replace them with aftermarket with grease fittings. Us synthetic grease and the second set will probably last forever.

Thanks guys!
Once again the members of the F-150 Online Message Board have helped me to understand the workings of my truck a little bit more.
The help and information is greatly appreciated.

I gather that this is one of those areas that it could be model specific. If there are no grease fittings, then you can't really service them because they are permanently sealed units. I was wondering the same thing myself.
So....my initial answer would be, inspect and replace if damaged. I wonder if the ones that you would replace them with would have grease fittings......probably...
