Thumbs down Uncle Ben's finest

Anyone else have a problem with ricer's doing high speed flybys when you are just cruising?

I'm not saying I won't let er rip once in awhile, but I don't antagonize. So why do these idiots do it? Is just the sight of a red Lightning enough to bring out the a** in these fools?

The latest was an MR2 with a huge fart pipe, I never even saw him until he blew buy me on a 4 lane @ about 100 in a 45, then nearly lost it in a curve, right in front of me!

Was I supposed to be impressed by this bumble bee sounding gnat? Ricer's, go jump back in the stir fry!

Cool

Is that what that buzzing was? I thought it was a damn 'skeeter. Wasting my time swatting at the air.

I can't believe how jingoistic some of you folks are. Noticing the source of these posts, is this a geographic thing? What if the dude had been in an NSX or Skyline, would that have been OK? I find it annoying when someone in a 528 or Z3 thinks they can beat my truck and start acting racy. Not to mention stock GTs or LS1s. If you pull up to a light next to a Viper or Z06 and blip the throttle do you imagine the driver is thinking, "what is this stupid Canuck truck doing bothering me"? I admit to strong national preferences myself. I would love to see Panoz win Le Mans, or Jaguar win F1. But I fail to see what country of origen has to do with whether a vehicle is legitimate competition or not. To use another example, Honda and Toyota seem to be giving the Ilmor/Ford motors more than they can handle in CART. And I would rather have a Buell than a Jap bike, but if I did I wouldn't kid myself that I could beat a Hayabusa. A friend of mine has a ricer, and we have an endless debate about who would win a race, but the odd thing is, he has ridden in my truck, and he thinks he would lose, but he has a mildly modded TT Supra, and I don't think I could beat him. It would be a good race, though. When he gets bigger turbos, etc, it wouldn't be a contest at all. I guess its pretty easy to blow someone off and say they are no competition, but until you race you don't really know. Ricers are a big thing out here, and when a Civic throws down the gauntlet you don't know whether he just has a fart can, or maybe a turboed B8 motor running 11s on the street. Theres only one way to find out, and thats not by flapping your gums.

Watch out for this guy ....

He runs 10's I think. But I have to admit I dont understand the Wheelie bars on a front wheel drive.

I like to make fun of anyone and any vehicle from any part of the world if it is all show and no go. I think that is what makes many of us laugh is the sticker, clear tails lights and tailpipe "go fast mods" we see on Ricers and others.

I agree Alphadoggy, just b/c it's a rice mobile, doesn't mean you can always beat it. A friend of mine offered to race me, and I said, sure why not, let's race for *****s and giggles. Turns out, it wasn't the stock CRX motor it was a GSR motor that sent him flying past me right off the bat (even though I had a 4 car lead b/c I jumped off the line). He's running 11's in it. And truly it is a stock motor, but it isn't the original motor for the gutted CRX. I seem to remember hearing the the video that my friend shot of the race him chirping the tires all the way through 4th. I lost bad, but I have a new found respect for rice rockets (even though i'll never own one, I still respect them).

Oh and p.s. even though it's front wheel drive, I've seen those cars generat enough power to pull the wheels off the ground. Some have even come up with hydrolic wheelie bars that push the rear up and the front down for added traction.

I understand both sides of this "debate". I think it is absolutely hilarious that many of the L owners here think Mustangs and Ca*maros are always slow and easy to beat. Whatever. If a low, mid-13 second _anything_ beats every Mustang or F-body in sight, then you live in an area where there are a lot of slow, stock cars. Period.

You can insert Supra, NSX, Vette, etc. in the above statement.

A true "ricer" in my book is some coffee-can exhaust tipped, sticker covered, slammed, backwards hat driven mobile that is always all "show" (and most of them are just clapped out cars...not show worthy at all) and no go. My biggest issue with these is that after they get spanked there's ALWAYS an excuse. "It's only a 4 cylinder" is the classic one. Well, yeah so what. It also weighs 1/2 of what a L weighs.

Run what you brung and quit making excuses is my biggest point.

As far as someone blowing by me and being obnoxious...I just let it go. I don't antagonize, either. If they nearly cause me to have an accident, I simply dial the local authorities with my cell phone, get the tag number and follow the guy around. Once the cop is in sight (I typically give them directions) then I bail. If the guy is going to endanger me or my family, I take issue with that.

Wes, You said it....

Marcus, Put a million HP in a front wheel drive and it wont pull the front wheels. It might pull one due to torque but never both. I have heard urban legends about hydrualic wheelie bars as well - just never seen em...

Lets see I if I add the following stickers that have been piling up will that make me a ricer too ??
Bell Helmets
SVT Ontrack
Ford Racing
Boston Acoustics
Alpine Amps www.SVTLightnings.com

I still need my Superchips and PSP Stickers but I may be running out of room to paste stickers

any car can run 11s...the question is how much did it cost to get there? getting a stock 17 second civic to do 11s aint cheap.

and an NSX costs $80,000 for low 13s? i'm not impressed.

Doug,

I don't know if the stickers alone will make you a ricer...gotta get that backwards hat thing going. I say this tongue-in-cheek...not all young guys who wear their hats off center are ricers.

But, Doug, every ricer will swear to you that those stickers or that monster tach will make you go faster. LOL

MACD23,

I agree that low-13s for $80k isn't that great, but that is not what the NSX was designed for. I've driven one...awesome car. And the gearing is not even close to being right for 1/4 mile acceleration. You can do 85 in 2nd gear and its a 5-speed! A friend of mine had a new gearset (lower gearing) put in his and it rocks. Will definitely run 12s. And its still an awesome road car. I'm not saying I'd buy one b/c I won't. But if I did it wouldn't be with 1/4 mile acceleration in mind.

Hey Alphadoggy, I don't think you understand my point. To me, rice is stickers, fart pipe, hat backwards, acting like an a**hole on the street. It's really more of an attitude and behavior as much as anything else. It just so happens that around here, the majority of these cars are Japanese. Therefore, I refer to them as rice.

There was no reason for this guy to pull that stunt, other than to just draw attention to himself and his 16 or 17 second car.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but that's the way I look at all these cars. If it was really fast, he wouldn't need to be a jerk showing off and driving like an idiot.

If he would take it to the strip, and then bring back a 13 second or faster slip, I would be impressed. Stickers and coffee can fart pipes will always be rice crap to me.

I'm not sure what everyone's problem is here with "ricers" but i just left that scene when i bought my L this year. Let me tell you a few things, those guys are a helluva lot more well rounded hot rodders than the small block V8 crowd. These guys aren't interested in 1/4 mile times alone, they're perfecting a complete touring type vehicle. But if you want 1/4 mile respectability, i've seen Civic's like that green one run high 9's. And whether you like it or not, these guys have influenced the way Detroit and even SVT build enthusiast type vehicles (2001 L tail lights maybe?). I've got nothing but respect for what these guys do, cause for the most part, they're doing it better. I've seen just as many hat backwards Nova drivers pulling that same s**t. End of rant.

You can say all you want about the few exceptions to the rule but I'm sure the overwhelming majority of these pesky little noise makers are stickers and a fartcan. Even though I'm sure they do exist I've yet to see one that requires even a helmet let alone a rollcage at the track. I'm sure the original post was directed at majority, not the exception. What's next? That tire smoking minivan exception that was up a while back saying we gotta respect the stoplight soccer moms? Please...unbunch thy panties.

There is one local MR2 around here that had ran a 13.1 (I saw it run that one time) but he had some high boost numbers...

He's quite annoying when ya talk to him tho, he just keeps goin on and on and on about how fast his car is, and how fast they can go, and how easy it is... I just wanna kick the guy.. =)

Some ricers are Legit.. but I have yet to find one on the street... Fastest Ricer Ive seen at the track was a Civic with a seat, and I'm sure NOS, turned a 13.04 against a Dodge Ram that turned a 13.04 Scary

As with rear wheel drive, the front end will lift on acceleration. The wheelie bars are set to force the front end back down assuring full contact and max traction.

How about the 500HP $500,000 Celica that Stillen put together in this months Car & Driver. All it takes is money,

Rex
