Cool Gas Mileage questions

I've just gone through my first 3/4's of a tank and measured the mileage at 12.8 I'm not upset about it, but I do hope it will get a little better on the highway and after break in.

All of the official Ford documentation on the 2000 L, say 14 and 21. But, my window sticker said 13 and 17. What's up with that?

I mean, I like Ford for building my beast, but why are the Ford numbers so far off the EPA numbers on the sticker.

On the highway I got about 15-16 mpg when I first got it. Now, I drive mostly city and I have 4.10 gears, I always get right at 14 mpg. Beats me why I get better gas mileage than others, it seems that a lot of L owners get the gas mileage that you are getting though. Jeff

You get better milage possibly because your speed-O is off from the gear change. I don't get 14 on the HWY.

Did you get my email the other night mracer?
I got around 14.5 mpg bone-stock while applying liberal amounts of throttle!!
With chip & filter I'm getting about 15.5 mpg now. I also have over 3300 miles on truck and that may also be helping it some.
Anyway, shoot me an email and we'll let our Red Siblings meet.
Later,
Ryan

Unhappy

Nick d,

Is that a US or Imperial gallon

I will be in England from the 16-24th, and will have withdrawal pains again as usual

Cheers,

...Dwight...

boy would i love to average 12.8 m.p.g. I think i got that once, on one tank of gas, on my way back from Laguna Seca with a tail wind. i think i mostly get about 9 around town, but when you factor in the highway miles the overall average is probably 10. now can you see why i am interested in an Ev-Sport?

If I got 12.8 I could die a happy camper LOL. All I know is, an tank of gas @week when working and two tanks when f*%#ing off.

SVT54SC, Nope, I had the chip recalibrated and it works perfectly. I will have to admit that I do not get on WOT that much since I am in the city, but I get on it at least once a day. Even when I took it to the track, which is 110 miles, one way, doing 80mph and at least 5 trips down the 1/4 track, I get 11 mpg!! I must be blessed with a great truck! All I know is that I am not complaining.

Oddly enough, since my L has been broken in, I'm getting pretty close to what Ford rated the L at. On a 2300 mi round trip to the Big Ditch in Arizona I averaged 16.6 mpg. My best was 17.4mpg achieved with steady 70 mph and the AC off. My worst was 15.4 mpg through the mountains with some 100+ mph blasts.
Around town I average mid 13s unless I really hammer it every day for the entire week. My worst has been 11.8 mpg, achieved during a week long imbalance between hormones and brain cells.

We have gas mileage?

I personally pulled an 18.6 in California/Oregon on the way up here. It was for 250 miles, on the North side of Mt. Shasta, where ever that is.

Thought that was cool, I do know however that I was generally going downhill.

I think I averaged 16 mpg from Las Vegas to Anchorage, with a full load (1,000 lbs of junk), a tonneau cover, Atleast he didn't hit a moose on the way up so I was happy (like he did on the way down).

Before getting the front end aligned and switching to Mobile 1, I was always getting around 12MPG no matter how I drove the truck. Afterwards, I got 15.9 MPG highway on the way to Portland International Raceway from Seattle and about 5 MPG while doing hot laps on the track. I haven't run a tank with mostly city miles yet to see if that improved over 12 MPG as well.

On my last tank with a bit of freeway, lots of being stuck in slowing moving traffic, city, lots of WOT, I got 14.7 mpg.

I've got 38,500 miles and get 17+ on trips and 14- around town. Then again, I'm still running the original F1's, but I do use WOT at least a couple times a day (for exercise!). I have found the area southeast of Milan, Michigan seems to encourage MUCH greater fuel consumption.
