Unhappy Lightning Down

http://picasaweb.google.com/deusww/C...ey=U8jWK2dsQWQ

Well my truck is in the shop and I'm not sure if i'll get it back. So far the estimate is at $6k and that is just cosmetics and paint (nothing mechanical.)

Took the CHP 2 weeks to generate the police report which I needed to make a claim against the idiot's insurance and well...turns out he doesn't have insurance. My theory is he tried to add it after the collision.

Anyhow, its not leaking fluid but the frame is bent pretty bad. The doors will not open and the body of the cab has rippling in the rear corners.

I was thinking about selling my Lightning but now its going to be tough with a collision on the record. It will also cost me $1k for my deductible and will take atleast a month to two months to get everything back together. Durring this time I do not have my only vehicle. Its amazing how one person knowingly being stupid (entering a blind intersection, driving without insurance) can cause others so much harm. The BMW driver's passenger is also lucky the impact point wasn't his door.

Oh ya, the guy in the Blazer just happend to be getting off the freeway for some Micky D's. It was a long drive home after his cruise and he needed to stretch his legs. Nothing I could do to avoid him as my steering wasnt cooperating and ABS was locked in. Some luck.

Wow! That's being at the wrong place at the wrong time! I know how you must feel! Driving w/o insurance has become epidemic around Georgia here! It was on the news just the other nite! Should be mandatory jail time!!

Hope you get things worked out soon!

When my 01 was wrecked the frame was also bent, but they were able to straighten it on the frame shaker. When I got it back it looked brand new and performed the same also. The bad thing was I did not go through insurance to save the title so it cost me about 8,500$$$

Had a similar experience a few years ago. I had JUST gotten my truck out of the paint shop the day before and was really digging the new color. '83 F100 short bed...557" stroker, etc. I had done a frame-off restoration. I was on the way to a car show early one saturday morning; guy in a Honda decides to run a red light and I t-boned him. Destroyed the front end of my truck. Was I pissed? The guy got out of the Honda a little rattled, to I rattled him a little more...all the way to the ground. Cops show up of course, ambulance a little later, but I was already in the back seat and on the way to booking for A&B.

A couple things good came out of the whole situation. One, I can almost guarantee you that the idiot that ran the red light won't do it again. Two, I learned that I had to learn to control my temper a little bit. And three, the truck was totalled and insurance gave me a good deal of money for it...a little more than I had invested in it actually. Bought the truck back from the insurance company, repaired it (frame from JY truck, fenders, bumper, etc) and had it better than it was before, then traded it straight up for a '93 Cobra that needed an engine overhaul. Then I got hit in the cobra, insurance totalled it and I used the money to pay off a few bills; then bought a '84 SVO and an '85 LX 5.0/auto...neither was really nice, but I wanted the SVO. Sold the SVO for 3 times what I paid for it and made some money on the LX as well...used that money to buy the Lightning I have now. Bad thing about the entire thing, I now have a criminal record. Eventually lost my fiance' and my job over the deal.

Just thought it was worth sharing, FWIW.

Sorry about the truck man none of use are safe from it, it scars the chit out of me everytime it comes even close to happening to me. Hell, I will not pull all the way up to the intersection at a red light when I'm first in line thinking two others will get involved and make me a third party.

OUTSTANDING Skelton!

I absolutely agree that being caught without insurance should be a serious penalty and being at fault in a collision without insurance should be instant jail time and seizure of any tangible assets. I think it is only a $100-200 min-max fine for the first offense in CA.

If someone knowingly stole $10,000 worth of anything, then it is considered grand theft and they go to prison.

If somone knowingly drives without insurance and causes a collision (NOT ACCIDENT!) that does $10,000 worth of ruin and hardship, then it is a slap on the wrist for a fine and the insurance company has to decide if they want to spend the money to pursue the person.

Does this sound right?

hahaha

Stop voting for Actors as your Govnahs.........hahaha.

Sucks man. You obviously had the right away so he is at fault for both collisions.

I would spend the money and have a private adjusted look at the damage if you aren't satisfield. Alot of times, more and more damage shows up after it is all fixed. Measure the frame rails, the front end and suspension, not just the the body work. If you hit him that hard, there could be some damage.

These F150's never had a good front crash rating.

Good luck and glad you are ok.
