1999 CUX1 to 2004 URB1 ECM SWAP

Anyone ever change out their ecm with a later one, I have a new SVT 03 engine running on my CUX1 99 tune/80mm ford maf and am going to try and swap out the 99 for 04/90mm ford maf and the latest URB1 calibration..also looking for a 04 ecm 4sale/anyone got one, needs to be federal base calibration and not the calif base calibration ecm..or know a good link to get one reasonable. thanks

I think you'll find that the PCMs are wired differently internally and that the pins don't match up properly with your wire harness... I'd spend some serious time with the '99 and '04 wiring diagrams before attempting this.

No, you CAN swap them between the 5 years, it's all the same pinout.

You can put a later PCM in your 99 if you want. If you don't want to run a tune in it, then you have to use the 90mm MAF and 3.73 gears.

You'll also need the dealer to do it, as the new module has to be keyed to the truck. You can't just unplug one and plug in the other.

The same thing happened to me. I was messing with the chip (cleaning the contacts) and inserted it into the ECM without taking the key out of the ignition and the truck wouldnt start. I put it on a trailer and took it to the Ford place. A friend, whom is a fellow lightning owner and a dam good ford mechanic, found that the ECM was shot. I have an 01, I was scheduled to have it tuned the following day. I called the shop that was going to tune it and cancel the session and the guy said "you are in luck". He had an ECM from an 04 Lightning on the shelf. I took my chip to him, he put it in the new one and I brought it back to the Ford dealer where my truck was sitting and hooked it right up. I believe the PATS system was dissabled and there wasnt a problem. I currently have an 04 ECM in an 01 Lightning.

Hey SAL, is it true that the 04 ECM has more tuning parameters than the one that comes in the 01? A tuner did mention that the 04 ECM allowed more tuning on the MAF. Whats that all about? true / not true....

You just had the guru of Lightnings tell you that they were all the same. How much confirmation do you really need? Also noticed that you've had the same questions answered in extremis on NLOC.

Save yourself some trouble and have Sal make you a 2004 tune that will work in your own computer. It will cost you about the same for allot less trouble. When it comes to tuning, Sal is the King regardless of what you do (autocross, drag or street)

I got a 01 CUX2 ECM on my 99. Ford reflashed the computer and I was off.
