EXTENDED CAB? LIGHTNING OR HARLEY?
Well, they say Ford SVT monitors this site so here goes again. I participated in the first SVT pole about the Lightning and said I would like an extended cab. Supposedly 35% of those polled said the same. So far, not extended L. Now theres rumors they are going to make a Extended Harley with a detuned Lightning engine. What is this? General Motors thinking like Oh nothing can be faster than the vette. Well I have a suggestion. Make it, offer red, use same engine as L except with different programing. I will buy one, rip all the Harley BS off, add lightning placks, put in a chip, and presto, an extended cab Lightning!!!!!!!

I'm thinking a L engine, in the Roush F-150's would be REALLY nice!!! I remember looking around a Ford lot, and noticed how nice the Roush truck is, especially since it had the 4 doors.
Let's just leave the L alone as is. If they start tinkering with it then everyone will have one. anyone that wants an extended cab has plenty of choices now and if someone does want or need the extra space, then racing is not a high priority anyway.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Just my two cents worth.

Hey SVT-if your monitoring this site- How about coming up with a replacment for these intercoolers that are failing at an alarming rate. And I don't mean replacing with the same piece of crap that we have to start with. Just because mines not leaking now, doesn't mean it will never leak. And by the way, I NEVER race my truck and it is stock like it came off the line when new, REALLY. If mine goes out right after the warranty expires, you will see the true meaning of a redneck.
The Lightning is a SUPERTRUCK. In its stock form it is simply an amazing artistic piece of performance machinery. I think the reasons that they don't make an extended cab version are the following:
1. Extended cab means more weight, in the wrong places...that slows the beast down.
2. Extended cab changes wheelbase and handling characteristics. Bye bye sports car handling.
3. Extended cabs don't look quite right with the stepside bed. The stepside bed makes the truck look more aggressive.

Wash n Wax,
What do you mean SuperCabs don't look right with the Flareside? Stepside is what Chevy calls theirs, by the way.

Oops...I knew I would wrinkle a feather...
Sorry, Blue. Your Flareside does look nice, and I certainly should know better on the lingo. Flareside actually looks and sounds better than stepside...
I just think that a regular cab FLARESIDE is the sportiest, most aggressive look.
That Moonlight Blue is a pretty color. It wears the tint quite well...

Wash n Wax,
I was just giving you a hard time.
Thanks for the complement! With a 3 month old now I am looking at the SuperCrew as my next truck. Hey, I got it! How about a SuperCrew Lightning with 425 HP to make up the extra weight added? (just in case Ford is actually listening)

noelvm, i am so with you! i think the extra weight would slow the truck down but it could be a mid 14's truck that would hall the kids and then haulass when i drop them off at school. kind of reminds me of the impalla ss. not the fastest thing around but would be a nice compromise for us guys who need a something to carry 4, but want a sports car. i bet ford would sale the crap out of them and i hate to tell you but ford wants to sell truck not unique limited run vehicles.
I don't think it's a capacity issue as much as a CAFE issue. It's not that much more to build a S/C 5.4 than to build a regular one, but it would eat the CAFE numbers for lunch, not to mention that they're pretty expensive compared to regular 5.4, and wiould add to the cost of the truck (which I'm sure they would more than make up for with a higher price)
I think that the SVT vehiches are as much about advertising as profit, with the limited number built there's really not that much profit in a Lighting in the grand scale of things. We're talking about 50 million dollars gross profit to a compnay that will make 7 Billion total profit this year. not much really.

Hells bells, I don't care if Ford builds a dump truck with a Lightning motor, it still wouldn't look as good, handle as well, or go as fast as my truck. I would never buy one for those reasons, not to mention the fact that anything bigger would not fit in my garage. However, there's a guy near me who has a Chevvy C/K 6500 painted mystic purple. Its really something to see. Anyone for a mystic edition Lightning?
Brotherdave: You made a good point: Ford wants to sell trucks, and in large quantities. Seems like they're always making special edition trucks, such as the Harley, and now there's a new "King Ranch" version of the F-150 coming out, and I'm sure they'll sell every one they make. Even if they didn't call it a Lightning, I would love to see Ford just offer the S/C 5.4 as an optional engine/suspension package in the Supercab models, maybe limited to the Lariat editions and those other special run models of the year. Some subtle "5.4 S/C" badging would do to differentiate such a truck. I would buy one, no question, and I'm sure many others who are making performance modifications to their 5.4's and 4.6's would opt for the supercharged 5.4 if it were available. I bought a supercab because I needed the extra interior space. I would love to buy a Lightning but I can't justify a regular cab. I guess the question for Ford boils down to capacity to produce the extra supercharged engines to do this. Certainly they realize that there's PROFIT TO BE MADE.
