Post Mod Questions.

I've been reading this board for a couple months dreaming about my own L and finally I am going out of state, by Greyhound if you can believe it, tomorrow to pick up a red 99 with 4400 mi. I have noticed so many of you are very experienced with different modifications. I am wanting to keep mine mostly stock but want to add a chip, maybe the R9.
I also want to keep the stock airbox for looks and I would rather not add a MAF. My question is do you think putting a K&N filter in and drilling holes in the underside of the box will be enough extra air for te new chip.
I really am not going to be taking it to the track or anything like that but you all have convinced me that it runs so much sweeter with a chip. Thanks very much, I have really found myself addicted to this board

I had my chip for several months before the flter showed up, and I couldn't feel any difference seat of the pants when I added the filter. 1/4 mile times did drop by an additional .5, but that's not necessarily attributable to the filter since it was a different track and significantly different weather. Can't comment on the R9 as I don't have a Superchip. Enjoy your L.

I'm running the SuperChip R9 in an otherwise bone stock 2000 Lightning. The chip works VERY well with the stock air system. I know the stock boost gauge is probably not very accurate but I can peg it to 10 psi anytime I want. Just drop the hammer.........

all i have to say is pick up the latest "muscle mustangs and fast fords", they got 23 hp. from just a pro-m meter, compared to 14 hp. from just a chip (superchips brand), but working together they made 53 hp. if you're going to just add one i know which one i would add.

My experience in back-to-back runs with a chip and with a chip and filter, is that the filter alone is worth .07 to .1 secs at the strip.

I got similar results from drilling a bunch of holes in the bottom of the stock air box.

I believe the airbox gets restrictive at high RPMs.

I like being able to put my stock box back on without the swiss cheese effect (the dealers tend to start looking for other things once they see you're a tinkerer). I have a filter and I'll simply replace it with the box when I finally do go visit our scary friends at Ford.
