Well, I never thought I'd go through several chips, but I have.

Each one has been good in its own way (PSP chip provided significant power gains over the CUX1TRAC chip), but after recently discovering that the PSP chip caused detonation problems at WOT after the 2-3 shift, I had to find something else.

Talked to JL and decided to give his chip a shot. I just got the single program "street" version. The truck is certainly as strong as with the PSP chip (364rwhp and times below on F1s), but there is no detonation at WOT in 3rd gear. Granted, I'm almost _never_ doing that, as I don't race the truck at the track but once in a blue moon, and on the street the only time I'm going really fast is just cruising on the freeway. So, WOT in 3rd gear really isn't an issue for me, but nonetheless it bugged me that the truck would ping there.

JL's chip delivers outstanding shift characteristics. Softer at part throttle, but as firm as any I've run at WOT. Part throttle response and driveability is outstanding.

When I get over to the dyno for a pull, I'll report back.

Please do keep us posted as I know there is a growing number of L owners that are croping up with ping problems. Let me know when you go back to the dyno. I have been meaning to make another trip back up there would be great to meet up with you for some dyno thrashing! Let me know.

I have been running the JL chip for about 1-2 months now and have NEVER had any pinging. Its an outstading chip. I am very happy with its preformance and JL response time and profesionalism.

what is WOT,what is inferred by Detonation and what do you have on your truck wa2fast?, sorry for acting like a newbie, but I only have a vague idea and would like to really understand what exactly those two expressions mean, only way to find out is to ask, so keep the comments to a minimum please .

WOT = Wide open throttle

Detonation is another word for "pinging". It can be caused by a lot of things, but most typically is caused by over-advanced timing and/or too low an octane rating of the gas used. For example, my pinging problem with the PSP chip went away by just mixing in 5 gallons of 105 unleaded race fuel.

I have a chip, PSP filter kit, and a Trans-Go shift kit on my '99 L.
