How to Lower the Lightning ?? Vinnie??

Its time.Im going with a shaker hood , 20's, and lowering the truck with a MILD DROP.

Heres my question, what kind of drop is it i see on some peoples trucks which make the truck look factory. Not the ones that are slammed or even the ones that the truck "Looks" low. Im talking about maybe a 1.5" front?? 4" rear??

I also need information on what size tires to get. I am buying 02 replica 20". I am going for that " stock hot rod look" I want tires that fit the rim same as the 18s with a decent sidewall and bulge.... Help please

Basically i want my truck to look the same as Vinnies back before he went crazy with his truck.. Im talking 5 years ago....

also, my truck is sonic blue, also thinking about doing the hood / grille custom paint mod like rob Gs old truck. What colors to use and should I ??? I was thinkin like a real mettalic silverish white with orange stripe outline??

Have you tried letting air out of the tires?? Seriously, you can go with a set of front springs like Belltech or FMS and just get a set of 3 inch drop rear lowering shackles. If your truck is 03 or 04, which I believe it is,then you will most likely have to pull out a leaf, or go with an earlier model set of leafs. I've heard that even the JLP 4 inch drop really doesn't do much for the last 2 years of the Lightning.Maybe an 03/04 owner can shed more light on this.

Ahhh..The old normal days. there is a lot of times I wish I stayed that way.

I just had a FRPP 1 inch front drop and a 2 in rear shackle w 20 inch wheels with a 295/40/20 tire.
It didn't drive any better..about stock but it was good for daily driving as it didn't bottom out and hit curbs.

My advice: I assume you have a 2003-2004 like I do:

Ruslow Front coils (1.75") front drop.
-Camber bolt kit to align front)

Option 1 rear:
2-3" shackle with 1 leaf removed

Option 2 rear:
Hotchkis Rear Leafs

New shocks all around.

Lightningquick- you will NOT get the same 2 inch rear drop on your 03. You'll end up with a higher rear due to the extra leaf. See unoids and my previous post.

I realize that,I really can play around with the back, I was mostly concerned with the front.I knew it was a very mild drop.I have shackles in the back now and its hardley lower then my stock 02 model.Ill do something with the leafs.I just didnt want to drop some 2" drop coils in the front and have it too low.The picture of vinnes truck 5 years ago shown above is EXACTLY the look I am going afte rminus the camper top .I want to keep the stck look but with the 20"s i knew i had to do a minor drop to make up for the wheel tire size. To me His truck looks PERFECT.I was really impressed when i saw it at autozone when he was down for FFW a LONG time ago.Just like the tire size,Its exactly what i want.

And what the hells wrong with the Camper Top

You know you can save all your money and simply cut exactly 1 full turn off your front coil, (been there done that) and then simply remove the middle Leaf from the Rear
Let me see if I can find some pic's of the coil mod, I did it on the old 02....

I installed jlp 4" drop shackles on my truck and got an honest 2.5 inches

Although I to quest what your after (not too low, just low enough)
YES I found the dropped front took a little comfort and smoothness away.
One thing is for sure afterwards YOU MUST get it realigned, mine was so far out that they had to install an eccentric washer kit to bring it back.

My main concern is to not affect the Launch at the track, Blacky cut a 1.63 last time out and that was on a bad traction day at the track (for everyone) so I cant complain. On the 99 all I've done so far was drop the back a little and may live with it just the way it is (although I would like another 1/1)

paint

Ray,

We just painted our 91 Stang Sonic Blue with a white stripe going up the cervini hood and air scoop. I was in question as to how it was gonna look but I think it looks real sharp. A pin strip between the colors would really look sharp but wasn't goign to get the in depth for a strip car. I'll take pics tomorrow.
