Talking Any problems trailering a boat?

Does anyone trailer a large boat with their Lightning? I really want to get one but I am afraid that the high performance tires and the fact that it is not a 4x4 will give me a hard time on the boat ramps. Does the traction lok axel help? Should I just abondon my dreams of owning a lightning and go for a 4x4 crew cab instead? I really miss my old muscle cars now that I have my boat. Please can someone please advise.. Thanks

I think you'll find the L excellent for towing. Just don't forget you got a boat back there. I've had no problems in and out on many slimey Florida ramps.

Super Dave, How big is your boat? Mine is like 4500lbs.. Do your wheels spin? do you have to put people in the back?

Bigest thing I've pulled is a fully loaded Hewes 18' flats boat. Guestimate the total weight at about 2500 lbs. Had no tire spin or unusual problems going in or out.

Dave.

The only one I know of is Alphadoggy. He has not dropped the L for towing reasons but he has a lot of mods: MAF, 410's, chip

Haven't dealt with a boat ramp but I do tow a 20' enclosed car trailer usually with a Camaro in it and it tows great. I had a 99 Z71 Silverado before. The Lightning is much more stable. I even raced my friend's 93 SS454 and beat him 4 times in a row while pulling the trailer.

I tow a 19' 3000lb boat and have not had a problem getting the boat out of the water. However one after launching the boat I had some trouble getting the truck out with the empty trailer. (wheel Spin) But whit the boat their is evtra weight on the wheels have not had a problem.

A question for those of you that tow. Do you find that the engine is "up on the boost" while cruising around 65 or so? Are you cruising in OD or 3rd?

Thumbs up

No problem towing a boat-I can even pass uphill around other trucks towing their boats, you should see the looks on their faces! It is similar to a mortal truck w/o a trailer-you have to remind yourself it is back there. No problem pulling the boat out of the water either-I'm suprised I havn't bent my hitch ball backwards! 18' bass/ski boat- about 3000 pounds.
