Post How to make my exhuast LOUD!!!????????

I love the lightnings but they are too quiet stock..naturally i want to make it sound better...

But i want to take it to the next level
i want an exhaust note so loud, so mean, it will make the loudest of the 5.0 mustang guys run for cover

So how can i accomplish this?
does anyone have any layouts of the L's exhaust? How much room in under there for exhaust?? i was thinking long tuber headers with a 3 inch mandrel bent pipes thoughout the whole system

How many cats are there???
Are they they restrictive?
will high flow cats work???

If anyone has any answers ti would be appriciated

Ray

If you are looking for a mean and aggressive sound I would put the hi-flow cats on with a 3 inch cat back system this will definitely do what your looking for!

hey BlueL, to get a lot of information that you have been asking you can take a look at the FAQ, also the "search" top right of the screen, LOTS of info can be found that way. For ex: use the search, & type in "exhaust" ton of info!!!!!!!!

However when you do this setup which I did do you will loose some low end torque around 15 pounds at the rear wheels. My E.T was even slower by a tenth or two.I took this system back off and put my stock muffler back on and
immediately gained my tenth or two back!

Here he goes again, he will ask more g00fy questions that AGAIN free him of any responsibility of doing a little research. This guy is totally lazy, and does not even deserve a response.
Q. How many cats are there???
A: Get off yer butt and take a look under the truck.

Q. Are they they restrictive?
A: Common sense will tell anyone that stock cats are restrictive, otherwise the companies that sell high flow cats would not be in business.

Q. will high flow cats work???
A: Only if they are not hooked up backwards.

The SHM exhaust is fairly loud, hence why I got my own made. Think they were using those racing mufflers from Dynomax on their system.
Don't get me wrong, it sounded great, deep bellow, nice snap at WOT that turns heads, but I do alot of driving and it does get annoying after a while on the road, but it did grab alot of attention. I'd recommend this system if you don't do alot of long distance trips.

Cheers

Hey brown hornet...........

The reason i asked the exhaust questions was

1. I don't have my L yet..so i can't very well go look can I

2. Most tests showed that the stock exhust was very good....so i was wondering if the cats where all that restrictive? High flow cats are only effective if you need less backpressure

3. Less backpressure will kill some lowend torque (duh!)..so i figured that the stock cats might give the nessissary backpressure that the truck need for torque.... high flow cats would not remiedy this problem. (Well i don't think they would.....thats why im asking)

And if you can't see past theses questions to the real questions im asking then too bad (sure my "how much hp do our L's have" post looks basic but when you look in side there are more indepth questions than that......but if you just want to scan the BBS and pass judgment then go for it.....no one will care)

I have done lots of research.... but there are some things you can pnly learn from expearence, that why im aking questions about products that the members have tried..... to see what works and what dosent

I can check the archives and see past responses (i do) but as we all know, the opinions on certine products change all the time...new better stuff for our trucks comes out every day (you can see that just by looking at this BBS) so at certine times its futile to look at the archives

so don't be a hater..it won't get you anywhere on this board

just have fun and help ppl

Ray

Hey moses

I like the sound of your SHM exhaust.....i will only be using the L for bombing around town not long trips (that what i have the thunderbirds for......perfect fast highway cars....
and my buddy had a 1990 SuperCoupe (SC V6 for thoes who don't know) that will give you a decent run (it runs low 13's on street tires and no Nos or anything)...one of the fastest SC's in the US... Its an awsome car... might have a friendly race one of these days)

But the SHM sounds good...i only want to turn heads, and scare hondas....
i will only take short trips anyway so its ok (1/4 mile is a short trip right? LOL)

Thanks man....if you have and wav. files send them my way

Ray
