Thumbs up Johnny Lightning Superchip

Wednesday night I had a chance to test out one of JL's Superchip, and I must say I was impreseed. I ran a total of 5 runs all in the 12.83-12.89 range with consistent 60' in the 1.81-1.84 range.
Unfortunetly I did not add the 104 octane required until my last few runs. I was experiencing pinging from 4K and up. I like a DUMB A S S was running octane booster that just wasnt quite enough. My 60' and 1/8 mile times improved dramatically with the JL chip, but I was pinging in the top end and still ran those aweome times. I know next time I will be running much quicker with the right fuel, not octane booster.

Overall, I LOVED IT. The low-end Torque was incredible, I believe that there is low 12.60's for me and the JL chip. The weather was good, TEMP was 59, Humidity was 95%, but the B.P. was a AWESOME 32.03....WOW CECIL COUNTY really gets some great air.

Glad to hear the good report Spiro. JL is sending me a chip as I type. I have been running a single program PSP chip with good results from 0-90. Once it shifts into 3rd at WOT it pings in 3rd. Oh, and of course, I can't get in touch with Sal.

I'm not getting a race program from JL, just the street program, but nevertheless its good to hear of your results!

You East coast guys better suck up all that high barometric pressure while you can. Because in three weeks The Motor City Huricanes will be raining on your parades. LOL

So what is the difference between the JL superchip vs. the 'regular' superchip?

Hopefully, Johnny L himself will clarify, but he told me he has his own program...he just uses the Superchip as his hardware as he is a Superchip distributor. I don't know if he just modifies the regular Superchip program or what.

I'll report more when I get mine installed...should be next week. I'm just hoping the 3rd gear WOT detonation is gone, but that it performs just as well as the PSP chip in other areas.

Cool

Dreamin: basically superchips has many different programs for different applications for the lightnings. i personaly worked with superchips to get my own program to be the way i felt it was best for me..i took my truck to florida@superchips and jay and i spent all weekend perfecting my program. i left S/C feeling we did about all we could do as far as what i wanted..i ran a 12.68 with the new johnnylightning program so i'm happy to report it worked! so now i'm making all my programs available to the public if interested.i also have my own street program also...hope this helps!..JL

JL,
Your ram air kit is working well with these low temps. I tried a HIGH RISK / Hole in the left head light ram air with a piece of heater duct but it was too much for the Pro-M. I'm looking forward to E-town.

High Risk, what does too much for the Pro-M mean. Please explain. Thanks!

Caka,
The way the mass air flow meter works is it heats up a wire or piece of metal to a set temperature. Then it has a sensor a set distance from this heat source. As more air travels by the heat source it cools it so the sensor reads less heat the processor then uses this signal to determine the ammount of air travelling into the motor. I have electric fans on my truck and had a problem with warm gusty air blowing on the open air filter to the MAF meter. I made a plastic sheild to stop this. Now when I took another headlight cut a 3" hole in the center of it move the Radiator resevoir out of the way and duct it directly to the 12" open element. The cold gusty air was too much for the MAF to recognize and the truck ran very weird (spitting ,sputtering and cutting out) at speed.
My set up did deliver more air but more is not necessarily better. JL's set up seems to deliver the air straight into the MAF and alot less of it due to the restrictions in the tube and bends.
I did not try the stock MAF with my set up maybe it's not as sensitive as the Pro-M. The chip has been tuned to the Pro-m so the stock MAF would make the truck run worse. I'm going to test my set up again with the other MAF and the chip tuned for it after E.-town. I'll let everyone know if I find an improvement.
