Post 345 35 18's

WoW what a combo BABolts widened stock wheels with these huge meats the truck looks great. Dia is 27.5" close enough for me. Now I need help finding a source to buy and install a Roush lowering kit. If anyone knows a place close?? and how much should I pay?

The truck really looks tough from the rear. Had to order new fronts to match the backs aspect ratio, so I'll be selling a set of F1's with 7500 miles on them if anyone is interested..

Question

So what exactly is the setup your going to? I think BABolt widened his rears to 11"? Are you doing the same? How wide of rear spacers do you run? What tires are you going to run front & rear ? Brand & size?

This may be my next mod also. It looks awesome.

Thanks.................

Unhappy

Hey MNLightning... you gonna give us some more info... or just make us wait and drool...I'm running out of spit

Red/Alpha: I have been talking to BABolt over the past few week about some of his widened rims... here is what I know:
* He just did a set of rears which are 11" for a customer (think it's MNLightning)
* 1/2" spacer plate is required - custom made
with extended bolts.
* MNLightning has done his homework: approved rim width for: 345/35/18 is 11-12"
but may need bigger spacer??
* Only Michelin Pilot Sport comes in that size, but I'd say that's the all around best tire on the market today
* I dont know what could be run in front:
295/35/18 (pretty short) 275/40/18 (OD:26.8, but lots of understeer)- nothing else really works.
* I was talking to BABolt about 10.5" all around... he is not convinced that 10.5" would work in front...

I'm no expert, but I have had to do plenty of research on my own vehicle(s) regarding "phat" wheel/tire combos. I have 315/35s on a '96 Cobra and 275/40s on a '90 LX. Both are considered very wide for these cars.

Going from a 295 to a 345 by widening the stock rims would be interesting, I believe. As you guys know, you can only widen them on the _inside_ meaning you'll have more backspacing...and thus the discussion about spacers.

Personally, I'd get some aftermarket rims before running spacers. I've seen them fail...not pretty. Not saying it can't be done, but it's not recommended.

12" rim would be more ideal than an 11" rim for a 345 tire.

Let's see some pics, guys! I'm sure it looks totally awesome from the back. I wonder if a 1" shorter rear tire would throw off the computer enough to effect shift rpm?

I made a post about this size tire a couple months ago. I want to do this swap as soon as I can wear my rear tires out. I don't believe spacers will be required at 11.5" rears, there is a lot of room on the inboard side, haven't measured yet though. I got 305/50/15's to fit the stock wheel wells on my 73 cutlass with 1 1/4 inch clearance on the inside. 1/2" clearance didn't rub, so a 325 tire would fit my 73. there is more room under the lightning, but time will tell. Cool

I'm no expert at this wheel widening stuff but in my humble opinion I do not think that you will get a Lightning wheel that is widened to 11.5 inches to fit without some type of wheel spacer. But what the heck who am I to say.

"Personally, I'd get some aftermarket rims before running spacers. "

I don't fool around if I put it on or use it, you can bet it's FIRST CLASS period. I looked into the custom wheel deal and felt I could accomplish safely what I needed to without a custom wheel. Engineered from Design through manufactering...But then again you dont know how it was done.. Or how they are attached. Junk is always unsafe and I don't use JUNK.

BABolt was a big help and the job was Near Perfect. Wheels were True on both plains. Very, Very happy. BABolt Thanks very much!!! Workmanship was as good as it gets, period. And I am a tough customer. FYI This mod cost me just about $ 2k so far

Your right on the money, except for the spacer. But I wont talk about that here. I don't know what I will be running in front yet. Order a pair of 275 35 18's just to see how they look. I'll get some pic's in the next day or so if your interested. Looks great I am very happy. Need to get it lowered now.

LSChicago you are getting warm..but its less than 0.25" between the front part of the leaf on both sides. But how much room does a tire need?

Question

Have pretty much the same questions as Red Racer. Do you run the wide wheels all the way round, or just on the rear? How does the handling compare to stock? Who widened your wheels, and what did they charge, etc. etc. etc?

Just some more wheel ideas. Not only can you widened them but you can narrow them too. These wheels are on my 10 second 4.6L 2 valve Mustang.

Does not look like much but that is the whole point.
